I had C5, C6, and C7 fused in 2015, a laminectomy at L4 in 2019, car wreck in 2021, then L4-L5 fusion in 2023. All I can say is walking is your friend, don't do more than they tell you, PT, PT, PT, and work on your core strength as much as possible. I did a lot of PT before and after both back surgeries, and my PT told me I lost a lot of muscle tone after both of them. Building your core is the key. I am 58 and still hunt like I did before. Went on an elk hunt in Wyoming in November and it was great. Carried a 40-50 lb pack every day for 4 days before we found and killed our cows. The only thing that bothers me is standing on concrete for too long.
I do have some permanent nerve damage down the outside of my left leg, but I will take that over the pain I used to have.
You will get through this, just do what they say.
