After a couple year hiatus I finally decided to get back to building stocks. I moved to Texas in hopes of being closer to Jerry (JE Custom). When he passed I kinda lost my desire for a bit.

Had some very nice blanks laying around and a few builds that could use a pick me up.

The first is an exhibition grade black myrtle blank that I made for a 375 rum. I'm on the finish sanding stage of this project. The wood is the most beautiful I've worked with.

The second is a curly maple blank. I haven't completely decided what I want to do with it yet. I'm still in the shaping process.

Brother Jayson, I was wondering how this endeavor is going. Looks good to me and I think Brother Jerry approves.

That curly maple is like trying to carve woodpecker lips, hard is an understatement and the grain is a great example of chaos in nature. Gorgeous yes, but misery will be plenty from the little I have done with it so far LOL. Thank goodness for abrasives. That myrtle is beautiful, can't wait to see it done!!

As much as I like well made synthetic stocks, nothing beats a stock that looks and I'm sure will perform like the one you're working on. You are a artist!
It just kills me to use them when they are too pretty! :D I save them for the range and casual shooting and manage to get enough boo-boos on them that way even. LOL

Warm wood and deep blue metal is my cryptonite.

That wood is just so sexy...

I do miss Jerry...we had some good discussions...

Thank you everyone.

Another very good friend of Jerry's is building a rifle that we all discussed doing but couldn't get the design right. It's the 7 Texan. Right before he passed we all agreed on the design, had a reamer made but unfortunately didn't get the rifle together. I cut and shaped a stock for it (bottom black myrtle blank). The 7 Texan project has rejuvenated my spirit.

Thank you FEENIX. His memory still lives strong. I have a few of his items from his reloading room that remind me of all the great times.

Curly Maple is incredibly hard. I enjoy working with it. It's really exciting when you get that grain to pop and the extreme depth you can get out of the wood.
