Was looking at either Vortex Viper HD 12x50 or Leupold BX4 Pro Guide 12x50, trying to stay in the $500-$600 range. Then found the Midas G2 UHD and in paper they look good. Haven't got them in hand to look through. Price is below $500 though.

Any first hand experience with them?

Can't help with the binos but Athlon makes some vood stuff and the Midas is on the upper end. I prefer to be a hands on buyer also but would suggest a call to Doug at Cameraland. They will help tremendously with comparisons.

I would get the Athlon. I have the same pair of Vortex you're looking at - the glass isn't anything super special for Athlon to have to beat, and in my side-by-side between scopes Athlon typically punches up a price class compared to Vortex.

I have the Cronus G2 UHD 10x42. Great glass but they are very picky about eye relief and interpupillary distance. Makes it difficult to scan, but when dissecting terrain they are fine.
I am curious if the Midas are like that as well.
