I just laid in a pretty good supply of this stuff, wondered if anyone had tried it yet. It is supposed to have a burning rate similar to the old AA8700. Anyone using it?

Thanks!
Bob

I have been thinking about trying it in 338lm and eventually 338edge imp. Plus it is dirt cheap, and you are right it is close to AA8700 in burn rate, but it is actually the discontinued original Hodgdons H870 that the millitary or homeland security pulled down from 50bmg tracer and 661grn tungsten rounds. I hear it is very accurate and consistant, but leaves your barrel looking like you've been burning coal. Hope that helps a little, WC857 is also a good one, its a ball version of H1000 btw. Good luck.

If it truly is H870 it will shoot great in the 264 Win mag. That used to be THE POWDER for it. Hodgdon quit making H870. Retumbo is the powder that I use in my 264 Win mag. It has a 27 3/4" barrel and I get 3350 fps with 130 Accubonds and exceptional accuracy.

Wideners says this is not from pulled down ammo but genuine surplus, never loaded. I also thought I might eventually try it in the 7mmRUM and the 7mm Mashburn Super.
