Hey guys,
Just getting into LR shooting and reloading. I was able to get a good price on a Rem 700 Cust. Deluxe 300Rum. guess I should have researched it a little bit more, because little did I know you can't find ammo/brass with a search warrant. I finally caved and bought some high dollar norma brass. Anyhow..... Does anyone have any suggestions on loads. I was looking into the Hornady Amax but wasn't sure what powders people liked for this cartridge. Any help is welcome. thanks.

H1000, Retumbo, RL25, IMR 7828 are popular powders for the 300 RUM. H1000 tends to lead the pack. It has a little slower velocity than Retumbo but tends to be more accurate.

I use a somewhat mild load: 87 Gr. H1000, Berger 210 VLD at .020 off the lands, for 3050 FPS.

Hornady recommends using the 220 Gr. bullets load data for the 208 AMax. For H1000 that would be: Min 76.9 Gr - Max 87.5 Gr.

I would start 3% lower and work up.

What you run with will most likely be what you can find, but I would definitely keep a look out for the above powders.

I'm sure some others will provide good input soon.

Welcome to the forum. Be safe. :)

Thanks for the info... Any suggestions on primers. I know I'll just have to try, but the little I've read some people suggest mag primers for reliability but others say just lrg primers for accuracy

The RUM has a long powder column. So a mag primer is pretty much a must. Federal match 215M are very popular but very hard to find. Regular Federal 215 primers are supposedly just as good as the match primers. CCI 250 mag primers are also popular.

A lot of shooters use regular large rifle primers in WSM magnums with good success. That is because they are short fat cartridges and have a short powder column. I use Federal 210M primers a 300 WSM with good success. I would not try them in a 300 RUM though.

For brass most are using the Nosler stuff. It is good brase though a bit spendy. Norma also has good brass and is a little cheaper when you can find it. Hornady just started making 300 RUM brass and I'm excited about that. It too is a little expensive though. I have some but have not had the opportunity to load any yet. The Remington brass supply dried up a couple years ago. It was not too expensive and good for what it was. Sometimes you find someone selling some for some ridiculous marked up price. Pass on it unless you can find nothing else.
