Another Milestone

If you get old enough you can do a few cool things. I'm a groundhog & deer fanatic using only handguns since 1979. I get lots of deer permits in WV from farmers having their soybeans, corn, grass eaten by deer. I'm getting too old to chase the deer, so I use mostly my "big guns", a 375/.284 XP, .325 WSM XP, and .338 Mag JDJ Encore handgun. I've found through extensive testing that the #1 bullet for dropping these deer immediately are the 200 gr. & 260 gr. Nosler ABs. Yes, they beat BTs, PTs, Xs. I'd never thought that, but my numbers have proven it. I use double shoulder shots always when possible.
75% of this year's 84 deer were taken with these. One ran 5 yds., one 10 yds., one 25 yds. All others dropped. Exits are around 1 3/4 to 2 1/2". Internal damage is 2 1/2 to 3 1/2". I clean all these deer in 8 minutes. Used to be 7 min., but age takes it's toll. All is given to poor, elderly, friends, past patients.
I hope to keep doing this for a while.

There's not substitute for real world experience, and I doubt there are many people who can match yours. That's a pretty spectacular accomplishment!

In regards to the WV deer, I am not sure what part of the state you are in, but have you seen any impact of EHD this year? Our property was slammed. As in over 50% of our deer dead.

HandgunHTR, I'm in Grant co. Not hardly any EHD here. Deer are good. Next door in Hardy Co. a fair amount of deer have been found dead, emaciated. They have some EHD, but not lots now. Worse a few years

I guess that is good. We are pretty much straight west of you on the other side of the state, right on the Wirt/Ritchie line. It is hammering us. A few of the farmers around us have damage permits, but none of them have even needed to use them as all of them are finding dead deer along their creeks and ponds and the damage to the crops is minimal this year.

That's a shame. Your counties always had a reputation for big deer. Finally seeing some decent ones over here. My permits have been very large here for 40+ years. Lots of deer, just not really big ones.
