You're just getting started Lance. I've got a 24" 260AI that I pushed a 140 match burner to 3236 before I chickened out and didn't go any faster.

Of course that was with RL26.

This is a 20" .260AI w. 130 OTMs...and the Fury brass. I settled on the 3171fps load and went to stretch it out to 1109yds. They get to the target quick.

Well, yeah. Lower charge weights, lower pressure, and lower velocity=longer brass/barrel life.
I'm as guilty as most guy with AI cartridges in that the very first thing I do is to increase the pressure high enough to get the magic velocity number. I forget where I read it but it seems to hold pretty true that if you increase the case volume 4% that you gain 1% in velocity if you keep the same pressure. Look at the gains in the 30-06 just from raising the pressure to say 60,000 psi.

I fired this test piece 5 times to see if I could find pressure and it blew the primer (Fed 210) at that velocity but the brass was still fine. This is the Sig Fury hybrid brass with the stainless steel case head.
 
Std 280 Rem on a 24" barrel using a Nosler's most accurate load in manuals #3 and #4 with 160g bullets, IMR7828, FEDERAL 210 primer is 2930 fps, warm load. They dumbed down this cartridge due to pumps and semi-auto's. We had 4 Remingtons that shot this load, and the AI's are doing 3000 but with zero case trimming.

The standard and the AI, using Lapua brass or old Lake City Match brass formed from new, are a game changer in reducing upper-end pressures. A friend is shooting the 180g ELD-M in his 280 Rem with amazing results(2700 fps) using lapua brass, Rem 700, Wyatt's mag box, throated for 180s. The Std 280 only uses a smidge of powder, but you have to watch case growth vs ZERO with AI.

Tried resizing a couple of the old steel 45 acp cases once just to see, and the results were disappointing with the neck not having any grip on the bullet. I don't know if the steel is the same but like the electric primers Remington it is an idea I can let pass.
You need to look up the case, it's not all steel. The case HEAD is steel and the body is brass, it's a two piece case designed to run at 80,000 psi.

I am aware of the steel case head and still have doubts about resizing the case head. Maybe it's not a problem but I can be patient and wait for more information.
