90's technology

Years ago I was told that the 22lr was only good for 50 yards and I was very surprised how many believed those statements without testing it out themselves. When I first purchased my Remington 513T after sighting it in, I moved to the 200 yard range and started shooting at that distance. I was getting all kinds of looks from those older than me then and on occasion now I do get younger guys shooting asking me why bother shooting the 22lr at that distance.

There is a lot to learn from this, specifically being able to see how wind affects its trajectory and I found out that high velocity rounds in the 22lr seemed to be more accurate at 200 yards than the subsonic rounds. I attribute that to less time for the wind to affect the bearing surface of the bullet over the slower bullet thus having more time to affect its trajectory. I have no scientific proof as I am not a scientist who never got a college degree. But I know I can hit clay targets and its fragments more frequently and with less rounds than using subsonic rounds like CCI, wolf target, eley, and RWS rounds. So with that deduction I make my statement that the transonic stage does not have much of an effect on the 22lr at 200 yards, well 240 yards to be exact.
Yes, you are correct about time of flight. Not only will wind affect the .22lr bullet more over time, so will coriolis affect it which is based on time of flight and compass heading, not distance.

Do you realize that using point blank range does not account for your group size dispersion. Using point blank range means more than 50% of your hits will be outside the kill zone at max range. Your deer movement gut shot explanation may actually have been caused by your group size dispersion and the deer moved after being hit badly. I knew something was wrong. I haven't hit a deer in 50 years.
I'll zero at 100 and dial all those 300 yard shots this fall. Maybe I'll finally get some venison.
 
Yes, you are correct about time of flight. Not only will wind affect the bullet more over time, so will coriolis affect it.
And dont forget the uh uh uphill downhill affect.
But dont be fooling around very long calculating for all of that.
Else the guys on the lookout 1/4 mile down the road will have that nice buck sliding down the hill. lol

Yes, like most things in life, you have to understand it's limitations. You still need to aim high or low and know the distance to use point blank range zeroing properly. As demonstrated in the video, 20 yds near 300 yds using his cartridge can make a huge difference on whether you impact in the kill zone or you wound the animal.

He wasn't shooting deer with his .22lr at 200 yds.
 
You guys crack me up. Point blank range is determined by this. Most rifles are set up with scopes, once zeroed. At 3 inches high at 100. Where your bullet drops at 6 inches. Below sight. That is your point blank range. Duh i know reading skills are challenged with the last few generations.. the 270 using this system with a 130 grain bullet will reach to roughly 325 yards. With a hold at the top of the back. 400 yards. Watching too many videos and not having the yearning to get out and learn for yourselves. I am batting 100% with this system. Is it true that hornady videos hypnotize you into expert status? Enough confidence to make people that have been hunting 60 years inferior to what you know?
