I have a 7mm RUM on the way and was wanting to get some loads to try once I get it. I hope to be starting with 168 Berger VLD's. Please list type of powder and amount and velocity. The gun will be a factory Rem sendero SF2 Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Joel

I just got this load info from Berger but haven't used it yet. There are two listing for each power, the first is the starting loads the last is the max load.

Dale,
Load data for the 168 grain VLD bullet in your 7mm RUM. Yes, we are working on a manual but it is a long slow process and it will be for sale. Load data was generated using Quick Load and a 26 inch barrel and your results could be a little different.
AS WITH ALL RELOADING APPROACH THE MAXIMUM LOADS WITH CAUTION AS ALL RIFLES AND RELOADING TECHNIQUES WILL BE DIFFERENT.
Thanks for your interest and have a great day.

7mm Remington Ultra Mag

168 Grain RETUMBO 84.5 3029 88.5 3151 93.7%
168 Grain VIHT N170 87.0 2974 91.5 3129 96.9%
168 Grain NORMA MRP 2 84.0 3051 88.0 3184 93.7%
168 Grain H870 90.0 2982 95.0 3160 96.9%
168 Grain VIHT 24N41 93.5 3028 98.0 3193 97.9%
168 Grain 50BMG 94.0 3012 98.8 3195 102.9%
168 Grain AA 7800 96.0 2945 100.5 3107 102.5%

The VLD bullets will shoot best at an OAL that results in the bullet just touching the rifling to .010 into the rifling.

If my cutting and pasting is confusing give me your email addy and I will forward the email to you.

Joe,
I use 94 grains of retumbo with fed 215M primers. Also, size your C.O.L. to fit you magazine. This load should get you around 3300 fps. I would start my loads a little lower than this for safety purposes.

I have a custom 7 RUM with a 32.5" bbl and have tried many different combinations with the 168 Berger. My accuracy load is 93.0 gr of Retumbo with a 215 primer seated to just touch the lands. The problem with this load is that I could only get one or two firings out of the case then the primer pocket opens up. Velocity is 3580 and every once in a while they don't make it to the target.
This is a long range live varmint gun shot in the warm weather months, so I decided to walk it down to see where the accuracy fell off.
I started with 93.0 gr of Retumbo, changed nothing else, and worked all the way down to 83.0 gr in .5 gr increments.
Surprisingly it shot in the .2's all they way down, and velocity dropped to a comfortable 3200 ish. It now lives at 85.0 gr and 3250 fps.
