7mm PRC velocity poll. 175-180 gr. Upper end loads, but good brass life and accuracy...

What velocity do you get with 175-180 gr pills, ESTIMATED for a 24" bbl (25 fps/inch).

Please only vote if you actually have a 7PRC and have loaded for it...

Please guestimate the 24" barrel velocity before voting. For consistency sake, let's stick with 25 fps per inch. So add 50 if you have a 22", subtract 50 if you have a 26", etc.

Anyway, I'm getting a new rifle, either 7RM (1:8 twist) or 7PRC, as I'm giving my current 7mm Rem Mag to a buddy as a wedding gift.

I'm well versed in the 7RM vs 7PRC debate, so that's not necessary here. Just trying to get a handle on what people are seeing in the real world reloading for the 7 PRC.

Feel free to list your loads and comments below. Please include barrel length, brass type, primer, etc. The more info the better.

Had a 24" proof and had got 2970 fps with 175 elite and RL26
Now have a 22" Fierce rival and I can get 2940 fps with 175 elites but nothing consistent enough to settle on a load.
I shot this gun enough with nothing consistent that it is now for sale .
As much as I hate hornady I bought a box of 175 ELD-X yesterday if it does not shoot these it's gone.
I should of kept the 24"

22" Nosler 175gr ABLR 68.5gr RL26 3.34 COL 2980 fps consistent SD/ES's and groups sub 1/2 inch (3 shot). It likes nothing else. Ive tried factory ammo, Berger, Hornady bullets, H1000, Retumbo, StaBall HD, H4831 & SC. I can get the 160 CX's to shoot sub 3/4 @ 3170 FPS but SD/ES's not as tight or consistent as the Nosler's

Thanks everybody for the votes and replies.

Looks like there's a fairly low chance (25% so far) that I'd end up below 2900 fps if I go 7mm PRC, which is about where a 24" 7 Rem Mag would be in my experience.

Think I'm gonna go ahead and try out the PRC.

Now I have to decide on a Seekins PH2 (unobtanium right now, and 26" barrel instead of 24") or a Savage action build with a Preferred barrel and a Grayboe Phoenix or Stocky's VG2 that I could have in hand with plenty of time to tinker before deer season... 🧐

My son's, Proof 24 inch Barrel in, 7mm PRC with, a 180 grain ELD-M, hit 3,002 FPS but, he's since Backed Off a bit to, 2,985 FPS for, SUB 1/2 MOA Accuracy with, StaBall HD. Brass "Life" is, UN-known at this Point and he probably, doesn't care much, as he has, a NEED for SPEED and,..
LR accuracy !

If you've got the patience to wait for the Seekins that would be my vote.

Got a 7PRC Feirce, shoots factory Berger's and my hand loaded Berger's just fine. It ain't a 7-08 , I have 4 of them to compare.

I just watched a Ron Spomer Youtube video where he says he recently called Hornady to ask why their 7PRC factory ammo velocity wasn't achieving the velocity stated on the box. He related Hornady said they are having trouble sourcing the ideal propellent to get the stated velocity. So, if anyone is experiencing lower velocity than they think they should be getting not related to barrel length this may be why. (11:15)

A further example of this is shown in an Allterra Arms youtube video. Allterra Arms pulled bullets on three different lots of 7 PRC Hornady Precision Hunter ammo and found three differnet powder types.

I just shot a 22" 7PRC to zero for a buddy yesterday. Factory Hornady Match 180 ELD-M @ 2758 average (ES 50 from 2741 to 2791 for 10 shots, the 2791 was 25fps above average for the other 9 shots). Not terrible, but less than I expected. I think handloads should run away from that with the right brass and powder combo.

My 24" 7SS outpaces this (with the allowance of +50fps for 2" more barrel length) pushing a 184 Hyb @ 2868 or 2916 depending on powder choice with about 6-9gr less powder.

What velocity/accuracy are you getting with N570?

I loaded some N565 over the weekend and averaged 2905 fps in a 22" barrel Nosler 175's. Accuracy and speed was not quite as good as the RL26 but it's an alternative

I hit just shy of 3150 out of a 26" barrel with a Berger 180 hybrid. Backed it down to 3050 and that's where I get the best accuracy and consistency.
