Wondering what some of your pet loads are for the 7-08 for deer? Wife's gun - Remi Mod 7. Wanting to use something like Nosler Ballistic Tips in 120gr.

I have two pet loads for you to try.

#1 most accurate and best on deer. 49.5 grains of H 414, CCI BR2 Primer and a 120 gr ballistic tip.

#2 Almost as accurate in my rifle. 45.5 grains of Varget Fed 210 m and a 120 grain ballistic tip.

I tried larger bullets and found the 120 BT @ 3000+ to be perfect for deer.

Watch the H414 During the hot months because it is a ball powder and is heat sensitive. But during
the winter it works great.

Also recoil is light and should not bother your wife.

Good luck

I had good luck with Hornady 140 SST over IMR4350 @ 45.7 grains and loaded to book COAL specs. This was out of a Steven's 7-08 1:11 twist factory barrel. Did wonders on whitetails and hogs here in TX.

I have 2 good loads for my ruger compact rifles

1st.
Hornady 139 gr sst. 43 gr Varget. Cci br2

2nd.
Berger 140 gr vld. 41.7 gr Varget. Cci br2

I know these are not 120 grainers but they sure shoot good in both my rifles

Back off these loads and work your way up!!!

Barnes 140 Grain TSX over 46.5 Gr H414 gives me 3/4 in groups at 100 yds. My gun is a Weatherby Vanguard 7mm-08.

With 120 BT's I use 45 gr. of Varget. This gets 3000 fps from my 22" barrel. With 140 gr. TSX I use 47 gr. H4350.

Still working on finding a GREAT load for my 7mm-08, but so far....46gr of Varget with 120gr TTSX has been the best at about 1moa. It's a Model 70 featherweight, so it may not get a lot better than this? Velocity is 3050 average in a 22" barrel.

For my lightweight rifle, a Sako A7 ss, the factory Hornady 139gr GMX Superformance shoots so well I have no motivation to look further. When I was trying various factory loads to see what the little A7 liked, I shot a quick 3 shot 1/2" group at 200 yards and decided I was done and bought a bunch. The GMX is super tough. I took a buck quartering toward nearly straight on and it broke through 7 or 8 ribs and stopped just under the hide on the far side. The bullet was expanded toward the front, but still at close to 100% retained weight.

Berger 168 VLD's, Varget, Lapua brass, Fed 210M primers... Seat .015" off the lands. Work up your powder charges to your most accurate/consistent group.

With the 120 Ballistic tip, use up to 50 grains Ramshot Big Game for over 3000 FPS out of a 22" barrel.

Have always had good luck with 43.5 to 44 grains Reloder 15 too.
