Fellas, I own a 7 saum, pierce action and 26 inch barrel 1 in 9 twist. It's a lightweight hunting rifle.

My question is this - what would be a good starting load using reloder 23 and a realistic safe max speed that I could expect if I used a 180 Berger (hunting). Also any real advantages over a 160 tipped match king out to say 600 yards max.

Thanks for the help.

I have a 24 inch proof barrel and I am still trying to find a good load with velocity. I am going to try RL26 next. I have tried H4831sc and H1000 but both are slow in my rifle even on a long action. I use the 180 Berger Hybrid.

Tag. Just got this from gap yesterday. Built on stiller LA.

looks very similar to mine except I used a Manner EH1 Carbon stock in the green and black. So far I haven't had much luck with getting mine figured out. Seems to show pressure signs no matter what I load.

I have a factory Remington 700 BDL in 7mm Saum. Looking back through some of my loads I have had very good luck with IMR-7828 with different bullet weights from 154 Hornady SST's, Sierra 168 Match to Berger 180. I did not look for velocity only accuracy.

I'm averaging 2950fps with a 160 grain AB in my Model Seven 7 SAUM with RL26. I can get it to 3000, but don't like it that fast.

Some cracking groups there Shortmagman. I'd be happy with those. Tazman, that's what I want to try (the 180 Berger hybrids - these are suitable for hunting?).

I've tried 4831sc too and run into pressure quickly with sierra 160 tmk. Currently using 160 tmk with 59 grains reloder 23, Norma case, cci standard primer achieving 2960fps.

I've shot a handful of deer with 160 tmk out to 550 yards and worked ok but would like a dedicated hunting bullet that I can trust up close and far away.

I need to grab some RL26 to try. Been playing with some Superperformance powder a little also. I am fortunate to have a 7-300wsm also and it shoots the 180 huntingvld at 2950 all day long over H1000. This SAUM is being picky.

What about the 175 Elite Hunter? Might be a little easier to load for and it's a hunting bullet. I don't have much to share but I did get out to shoot with it and seemed to have a nice load with the 175s using RP brass, 59.9gr RL23, CCI200s loaded to 2.245cbto.

Thanks for the info Smokinghole. Did it take much to get them to shoot? What speed did you get?

I didn't have a chrony set up that day. Sorry, no velocity info. It should be a bit over 2900. I need to get a magnetospeed and I'll stop being lazy about the chrony.
