Is there any body using light bullets in the 7 rum ? I just got a Rem 700 and only had a chance to try a couple loads with RL26 with the 145 lrx. Groups were good and 91 gr gave me about 3500 fps . Going to try Retumbo and see if it gives more velocity. If anybody is shooting light bullets in the 7 rum is 3500 fps about all i can expect in this cartridge ?

I used to shoot the 140 grain Barnes XLC bullets in my 7 STW . Way to much 7828 produced 3700 FPS . Not advisable, heavier bullets at reasonable speed work much better .

With the long throat in this gun I'm not sure how well heavies will work with such a short mag box and don't want to use up powder experimenting . I have used heavy bullets in other calibers and I find at moderate ranges 300-500yards (which would be my hunting ranges ) I find that light bullets going really fast kill very well if not better heavy bullets.

Our 143g Hammer Hunter would fit your twist rate perfectly. You can expect a little better velocity from our design than conventional bullet and particularly from Barnes bullet. This is due to the PDR design that minimizes bore contact and subsequent pressure.

Laser beam rifles are fun.

Are the hammer bullets available in Canada ?

No. :( Maybe our new President will do something about the export regulations.

You could always make a visit to Montana and take some home with you. :D

Or have someone you know in the States send you some as a gift.

All I ever shot in my former 7mm RUM was the 140 TTSx. I used both 7828 and Retumbo (I got more speed out of it too) . In fact, in it and the 300 RUM, I found Retumbo to be the best for both accuracy and speed. I live right down the road from Barnes for the past 26yrs, so I live in Barnes Country, ha. But I am going to try the Hammer bullets as soon as Steve gets the 358 worked out. I am using a 358 Norma mag and his bullet will come in at 220gr. I have shot elk and elk sized Plains game with magnums and lightweight Barnes. I like the flat trajectory/speed/less recoil, but the bigger caliber makes a bigger hole...that's just a quirk I have, as I used a 300 winmags and 180 XBT for years with great results on the same sized game. Here in Utah the 7mms are very popular ( I like the 280 the best, but I don't shoot that far, not near as far as most on this website do or aspire to.) Good luck, and I agree, our new president will be looking into the trade deal. Goodness, I never understood why Canadians can't get US products like that...oh well...

Those 131gr bullets would really rip in the 7 rum. I do like the fact that you have no tips on your bullets. I have had problems with the 129 lrx in the cold weather. I was on a deer hunt up north and it was cold , -25C and seen a wolf and tried to chamber a round and couldn't close the bolt. Wolf got away and i found the tip in between the bolt face and the bottom of the case. Thought it was a fluke but had a chance to shoot the next day and another tip broke off. The 145lrx have a tip that looks like the ttsx tip and the 129 has a tip that is a lot smaller. I stopped shooting the 129 lrx in that gun because i was scared a tip would break off and have a chance to get jammed just under the tip of bullet and blow my face off. Not sure if that would happen but I was not going to take that chance
