6.5 prc load data

We had the most luck with IMR7977 and H1000. IMR8133 was a tad slow for our rifle with 143ELD-X.

Here's an article we wrote for a local outfitter that goes through H1000, IMR7977, H1000, IMR 8133 and RL26. Lots of folks have great success with RL26, but our rifle got pressure early. http://www.rockymountainhunting.com/b/reloading-for-65-prc.html

We hope to try RL23 and H4831SC this summer too. Perhaps with 140 Berger Elite Hunters or 130 gr Sierra Tipped Gamekings.

I'm surprised you're running such slow powder, H4831 is the fastest I used in my 6.5 Rem Mag which is about the same case capacity. 55 gr gets me 3050 w/140 VLD and 26" barrel.

those Reloader powders burn hot

Is anyone using H4831sc to reload 6.5 Prc?

Started with Retumbo but got fliers (1/4-1/2MOA) outside of the grouping, similar results in another rifle. H4831 worked pretty well but Reloder 26 is just the best hands down. At 58 grains in a 25" barrel Im getting 3080fps with the 147 ELDM
Do you remember your retumbo load? I got up to around 67-68gr today in my 6.5 wsm. I'm just wondering how much these 2 cartridges differ in the grand scheme of things

Thank you for your beneficial response. I am interested to see how H4381sc performs with the ELD-X.

Just a note, from what I've seen this PRC barrel may be slower than others. Normally when it gets to around 3K FPS I see pressure. However, it was flat hammering. Best this rifle has ever shot.

24" Rock Creek, 143 ELD-X, Hornady Brass, Fed210M, H4831SC. Thunderbeat Ultra 7 6.5
50.5 - 2795 FPS
51 - 2820 FPS
51.5 - 2853 FPS
52 - 2859 FPS
52.5 - 2865 FPS
53 - 2910 FPS
53.5 - 2931 FPS
54 - 2932 FPS
54.5 - 2955 FPS
55- 2981 FPS - Pressure/Heavy bolt lift and ejector mark

I've never had a Rock Creek barrel shoot poorly, great choice!

I am loading for two different PRCs. Both shoot 147 eldm bullets really well. One is a Seekins havak with H1000 and the other is a custom with Retumbo. Both powders have been very consistent. I haven't loaded any of the 143s but both guns shot the factory 143s great.
Just curious. How much better shooting is your Custom vs Seekins Havak?
Just wondering about building another Custom.I had my Bergara Premier Pro 6.5PRC Trued up/Blue Printed my a friend that's a shooter/machinistand gun builder. And it now shoots equal to my Custom Borden Action with Brux Barrel.
I may have git lucky.Just wanted your opinion on your experience. Thanks Epirate43

My havak shoots every bit as good if not better than any of the customs I have loaded for and shot. This could be because it's my rifle and I shoot it a lot. I have a load for 156 bergers and the 147 eldm and they both shoot very small. The havak at its current price is hard to beat. Especially now that they fixed the bolt issues some complained about.
