6.5 AI or 270 AI, mainly for300-400 yds whitetail hunting

Why not build 270 with lilja 1/8 twist barrel @ 24" to 26" barrel might be better at the yardage you want to hunt and you can use the heavy 270 bullets.

Tom yes indeed going with a 28 inch barrel that is the main reason going with an AI, the action to be rebarreled was topped with a 26 inch contour 6 barrel in 25-06 and eneded with a 24" fluted (same barrel)

I have a 30" Lilja 1:8" 3-groove #6 (.750" at the muzzle) SS on my .270 AI.

My 270 also has 3 goove Lilja barrel but it's 1/10 with 24.5" barrel and I use if drawn for mulie buck tag. I have Rock Creek on my 270Wby if I need more horsepower.

I like your 270AI and I've read your post about it before.

Lee I do own two factory 25-06 and need to rebarrel my 25-06 Mauser action pet..... even I am left handed I love Mauser actions I customized them and fit left handed safety on them. besides factory AMMO will be fireformed

I didn't know you could buy 6.5-06 factory ammo . So I don't know what your talking about fire forming factory ammo unless you want to go 270 imp . If your looking for a imp case I would check in to a 6.5-280imp . Nosler makes 280imp brass so all you would have to do is neck it down

Lee I am 270 addict but trully consider to own the 06 6.5 round, I do own a 6.5 sweedish, a 260 and the 264 Win Mag, just not a fan of them specially due first of all that 20 years ago the 264 only had one factory ammo bullet weight on the market an d was hard to find and I was not to much in reloading at that time, even today I only reload for fun, the 6.5's short actions are used by my 20 yr son since 4 yars ago

I'm a big fan of the 264 it will do more than a 270imp minus the bullet weight . It will be flatter and have less drift at any range . Also if your going to want to shoot past 500 yards you might want to start taking reloading serious . It will still be fun espically when you start to dial your loads in at long range . If your wanting a big 270 I would seriously consider a 270WBY or maybe a 270wsm . Good luck on whichever route you go .

270 AI have a blank .277 Shilen #4 MS Match Grade and next year will go for a 6.5-300 WBY Accumak RC, by the way, I'm a Weatherby man, 257 the fastest, 270 my best, 300 the awesome, 30-378 for long range shooting ,340 my all around Canadian/Alaskan, 375 my all around African rifle, 416 my Big Bear Killer and 460 feeling the Power

7mm, 338-378, 378 great ones but not special use.

224 and 240 hunt with them once rather shoot/hunt with other rifle options
