Hey guys just started with my 6.5-284 norma looking for load info for 130gr bullets any info would be great. Tried imr 4350 50gr 2890 fps good accuracy. But i think there is better out there if anyone is willing to share.

I shoot a Cooper with a 9 twist 26" barrel. I loaded 53 gr of H4831 and CCI br-2, .010 off the lands and was getting 3/4" groups at a little over 3000fps. 59 gr of Retumbo produced better groups pushing 1/2" but I never chrono these before I decided to try the 140 vld. Bought some EOL 140's to try and they shoot in the .6's at an avg. of 3040 fps. They are loaded with H4831 in Norma brass so I wouldn't try to duplicate them in Lapua brass. As soon as it cools off some and I get some time I'm going to run a comparison between H4831, H4350 and Retumbo and whichever one produces the best accuracy in the 2950-3000 fps range is the one I'll stick with. Hope this helps and good luck and good shooting.

Thanks for the info. I just got done trying retumbo before i checked this. 24" brux 57gr 2870fps. 57.5gr 2920, 58gr. 2960fps. These were all 130gr. Norma brass. I tried 140 amax with 58gr retumbo and got 2870. Hope they all shoot will find out tomorrow morn. I will post results thanks again

You Might Also Try RL-22.I Shoot 52.5 Gr's, And The 130 VDL. This Combo Gets Me 2980FPS in a 22" Barrel.

DPO,
I tried RL17 (50.5-51.5gn) and BR2's with the 130gn VLD Hunting pill. Did not chrono it but accuracy was .474", .426" and .9025" at 100yds, respectively. I also tried Magpro but neve shot any groups tighter than .6325".
Recently just started shooting the 140gn A-Max with 59gn of Retumbo and BR2's. Accuracy is one hole at 100yds and five shots inside a playing card at 700yds. Velocity averages 3038fps.
Good luck. JohnnyK.

My 25'' Brux likes Berger 140s with 50gr of RL17, Lapua cases, fed primers. So far it's held .4 moa to 400 yards. Waiting on more bullits to do more testing at longer ranges. Just question, why the 130 and not the 140?

Im not sure why i wanted to try the 130s but so far they have kind of been fussy. Today i shot the 130 vld hunter with the retumbo 58gr at 225 yds and got a .654" group so im pretty happy with that. I also shot the 140 amax same charge and got a 1.114" group and the heat mirage was terrible on the 140s . Listening to what everyone is saying though makes me think the 140s may be the way to go. But i will say retumbo has been the most consistant grouping powder i have shot through this gun. I have tried so far imr 4350, 4831, and rl19.

Uh, you had me at .6 at 225! Enough said. But if your like me and like to tinker then the 140s would help when you start to extend your ranges. Oh, and always remember we love to see pics of the groups. Congrats on the good groups.

Thanks carnyman. Im happy now with the 130s. I think i am going to see what i can get out of the 140 amax and the vld hunter.

No Pressure Sign On The Rl-22. and Temps Been All The Way Up To The low 90's. I shoot Alot Of The 120-130 Stuff Myself. The VLD's Fly good, But I'll Take The Accbonds Or TSSX. For The Killing. The Swift also Shine. William

In my boys 6.5x284 I use 51.2 grains of IMR7828 with Lapua brass and remington 9.5 primers, the 130s are coming out at 2970 fps At 100 yds i have had several just 1 nice hole for 3 shots ( i get excited and always pull the 4th one ! DANGIT ) Havent punched paper at anything long yet but just messin around a bit he smacks some pretty small rocks out to 600 with no problem oh yeah ,hes 11 years old and this is his first year to hunt and hes got 2 elk tags gun) :D

Reloader 17, 50 gr or just a little more, just touching lands. using old berger 130 gr vld's.

Awsome accurate combination @3000 fps or so, Deadly on deer.

Works for me,

Mike
