I just returned from some long range shooting instruction with the 406 Precision team, and thought I'd share some of the experience.

Instructors Jason, and Jordan, are both very knowledgeable, and able to demonstrate that visually as well as verbally. They both bring passion, and energy to the subject of long range shooting in a manner that is always encouraging, and are able to sustain the energy level for the entire class. A lot gets packed into a couple of days. The guys test their ideas in the field and in competition. They'll be at the Vortex Challenge this year, and it will interesting to see how their strategy plays out.

The Royal Tine facility itself compares favorably with the best camps I've been in, and Cody and Leree, are both very personable. I could have sat comfortably and enjoyed camp talk for hours, but we did come to shoot. If you're a sucker for hound pups like me, their Black and Tans are pretty special.

Take aways: 1) I've got a much better idea of how to use some of the electronics that support a good long shooting system, 2) The opportunity to handle a variety of devices in the field will save the beginner enough to easily cover the cost of the class, 3) I came in on the Leupold side of the Leupold vs Vortex debate, having the opportunity to look through and dial side by side, Vortex simply showed up noticeably better, 4) AR-500 is not completely bullet proof, 5) I've got more respect for the 280AI, 6) Also had to finally let go my political grudge against Cooper Rifles, 7) They aren't stuck on their style and see the need for individual adaptation, 8) Never stated what their Maximum effective range was, and never asked what anybody else's was, 9) I was the senior shooter by quite a bit, but it was a great opportunity to meet some quality young people, if any of you see this I hope I didn't hold you back any where, 10) Wind is the adversary-Montana or Wyoming certainly provide opportunity to see a good mix of conditions in a short period of time.

Tags get tougher to draw every year why sit home? I've enjoyed Montana fall and winter, and summer has it's plusses.

A very good entry level class with instructors that can walk or talk the next level effectively as well.

Thanks Jason, and Jordan!
