Awaiting for ups for the new to me 357max barrel for my contender g2. My 17 year old and I went to my buddy's house for lil trigger time. We were only shooting pistols my striker 7-08 and encore 6mm rem. My buddy Bills g1 22 match and his max. My son fell for the max we shot cast bullets he's been playing with. I didn't want to admit it but the g1 357 max and Burris 2-7 was a great combo. I'll post some pics when I get it together.

I put the g2 together. We went to my buddies and shot some home made 150 's shot good to 50yards. I shot 5 180xtp with 20g h110 needs lil load development. It's a blast for my son he loves it. Have been reading a lot about it lil gun, h110,imr4227 seems to be most popular. This target is the 150s lead at 50 yards

Nicely done! The Max is one heck of a deer getter! Don't overlook W296 as well, I have good results with it. The 140FTX is a fun bullet too but a little light and "may" blow up on a shoulder or rib. Lots of discussion on it.
The Speer 180FNHC is a great bullet for the Max but be aware of min velocity for decent expansion. Most accurate out of my Encore Max rifle- 24" MGM 1:14tw.
Another couple powders that work well is AA1680 and AA5744. So if short on powder, they will work fine. Accurate now part of Hodgdon.

I had the pleasure to shoot a friend's 357 Max Ruger Blackhawk with a 10.5" barrel. He had 200gr cast bullets loaded over H110/W296. He had taken several whitetail deer with that set up. He always said it "would knock the snot out of em".
I would love to find one but from what he had told me Ruger recalled them and stopped making them. He refused to send it in to Ruger because he knew he wouldn't get it back if he did.

Had a range session at my buds house on Friday. Loaded up some different charge weights. I was happy with the results of 20.5 of h110 at 75yrds. 2-6 power pistol scope it tough to see and steady. Loaded 4 shots of each charge this target was 4 shots at 75 yards.

Sorry for the delay in my response. I acquired all of my Max parts when they were extremely hard to find. I have never loaded or shot any of the items I have listed. I am forced to sell all my "toys" due to Rheumatoid Arthritis in neck and upper back. My neck is fused to a plate on my head and there is NO movement of neck. Groups pictured are quite impressive.

FYI - I have Hammer .358 140SH coming and I will be trying them out in my Max; Encore, 24" MGM barrel, 1:14tw, throated for rifle and not forcing cone. I have Lil Gun, H110, W296, AA5744, AA1680 to try and might pick up Alliant PP300MP to try. It sits right next to Lil Gun so not sure if worth the $$$$ to try.
I am betting 2500+ out of my Encore with Lil Gun. Bullets are shipped so cannot wait until they arrive!

I've used H110 and WW296 on other loadings before my surgery. They are basically the same powder, only thing with them is, they are dirty.

I love the 357Max, and I have a Super 14 and 10" in the original G1. With most bullets, they are right there with my 357 Herrett's in vels, but require less powder and are a lot easier to load tight groups and without case forming. Only in the heavier bullets do the Herretts have the edge.
My typical loads have been using 2400, H110, 296, and Lil'Gun, and with bullets ranging from 125-140 for varmints/small game, the 158-180 XTP, 170-180 Sierra, older Hornady 180SSP (one of my all time favorites) a couple of 200RNSP and cast bullets in the 180 range.

Really neat cartridge. Always intrigued by it. I had a chance a couple years ago to buy a Dan Wesson in .357 Max and shouldve.
