338wm in AICS mags

Question will 338wm work in 300wm aics mags? I assume they would since its the same case/belt just necked up but has any one done it?

No, they are not the same. The .300 Win. Mag. is a slightly larger case, longer and more case capacity than the .338 Win. Mag. See the photograph below.

However the magazine may control both cartridges although I have not tried this one personally. A rib may be slightly out of position.

338 Win Mag vs 300 Win Mag The 338 Winchester Magnum fires wider and heavier bullets than the 300 Win Mag. However, the 300 Win Mag has a slightly flatter trajectory thanks in part to its increased case capacity and muzzle velocity. The 338 Win Mag will have about 15% higher recoil than the 300 Win Mag.

With regard to terminal ballistics, the (center)
.338 Winchester Magnum essentially splits the
difference between the (left) .300 Winchester
Magnum and the (right) .375 H&H Magnum.

yes I hunt with. 30 nosler now but was thinking of rebarreling a different gun to 338
