Am getting a 338 RUM and would like get some bullets and powder ordered. Anyone with a very accurate load to get me started. The rifle is a sendero.

blockb,

Congratulations on your 338RUM Sendero.
I shoot a M700 LSS in 338 RUM and have found it to be an excellent shooter.

Here are my favorite loads for the 338 RUM. All loads were taken from the Nosler #5 manual and are safe in MY rifle. I am using R-P cases and Federal GM215M primers.

200 gr Nosler BT
RL22 90.0 grs
best 3 shot group @ 100 yds .325"

210 gr Nosler PT
RL22 90.0 grs
best 4 shot group @ 100 yds .425"

225 gr Nosler PT
RL22 89.5 grs
best 3 shot group @ 100 yds .450"

225 gr Nosler AB
RL25 97.0 grs
best 4 shot group @ 100 yds .790"
( I will be working with this bullet/load this spring)

250 gr Nosler PT
RL25 90.0 grs
best 4 shot group @ 100 yds .490"

I used the 210 gr PT to take an Elk and 2 Mule Deer and the 250 gr PT to take a WT Deer. All were one shot kills, dropping the animals in their tracks.

Give these loads a try and let me know how they shoot for you. Good Luck!

How much velocity are you getting with the 225 accubonds? That is the bullet I hope to use. Do you have a muzzle brake on it and if so what brand? Thanks for the reply

blockb,

I do not know the velocity of any of my loads because I do not own a chronograph. One of these days...

I don't have a muzzle brake or any porting. I had a Pachmyer Decelorator recoil pad installed and it took the sting out of the recoil. Recoil with the 225 gr and the 250 gr loads is stiff from the bench or prone position but you won't even notice it when shooting at game. I also lightened the trigger to 2.75 lbs.

I recovered a couple of 225 gr AB's from water jugs and they were perfect mushrooms. For Elk and Moose, I will use the PT's.

In my Rem 700 XCR2 I replaced that stock with HS Precision and added HS Detachable Mag and Timney Trigger.

I really like the 200 Nosler E Tip and RL 22.
