I am preparing to have a 338 built, I am wondering about the barrel contouring. What should I order?

I am looking at a Heavy PALMA contour 30" in length with the addition of flutes.

Then that begs the question, how many flutes should I ask for? 6? 8?

Thanks, Don

Don, I built a.338 RUM a few years ago and I used a Palma contour,because I used a barrel
bedding block to hold the barreland action in the stock,,,, so that way the only part of the barreled action that
was touching the stock was the
4" of the barrel in the block. Every thing else is free floating in the stock.
I hope this helps. Tim PS I would go with 6 flutes

Varmint-

I was reading an old post of yours and I was curious. How did that 338 RUM withh the barrel block shoot? And what kind of an action and barrel were you using?

I was looking at doing something similar with a Savage LA witht the large shank and wanted to make sure it was going to stand up. I sure do appreciate it.
