250gr. or 300gr. trying to decide which to start with. which do you choose, why and brand. Thanks

My 338 Lap is improved with a 9" twist barrel. I run 285g Hammer Hunter at 3117fps. This bullet is too long to mag feed. I am going to guess that you have a 10" twist in which case our 260g Hammer Hunter would run very well. I would look at US869 to push it at ~3000fps. This would be top end and probably need Lapua brass. Depending on your elevation this combo would give you effective hunting range to 1000y. You can load the 300g Berger to ~2700fps and it will give you the same 1800fps impact vel at 1000y.

Are you putting holes in paper or animals? If animals what kind?

I'm going with a Hex coated 300 grain Berger.
Mainly because it's a proven bullet...
Going to try Reloader 25 first..

I been shootin 250's but I think I'm goin to switch to the Hornady 285 ELD's! Might wanna break out the 22-250 for the Whistle Pigs though!

I don't disagree on the 22-250 but blowing up ground hogs at 600 + is a sight to behold. A bit expensive but a **** fun day. I use a 300 wby imp. for it now, when my 338 Lap is done it'll be like chuckin boulders at field mice. CAN'T WAIT!!!:D
