338 lapua vs 338 edge

I am getting out of my 300 wm and looking to go bigger. I have been contemplating 338 lapua but then was suggested i should look at the 338 edge as the ammo would be cheaper to load! Also that i should build a custom rifle as opposed to buying a factory chambered rig. Can someone give me some advice I am a new member (first post) from New Zealandgun)
