I just purchased a Savage 16 Bear Hunter 300 WSM that I plan on either using as is with a couple of upgrades or building off of. I'm gathering components and got H4350, H4831 SC. Was wondering what bullet and components combo you guys have been shooting. I plan on using it for elk and deer. I've been looking at what's available more so than anything. But looks like that's with Eldx in 178 or 200 grain, or 185 Berger Juggernaut OTM (No personal game experience but read they have a lil thicker j4 jacket than the hunting line like the hybrids that many love), and the Hornady CX 190. I would love to get some 200 grain Accubonds but they are scarce. Hammers?

What twist? 1:10 = 166g hammer hunter and push up to pressure and back off and that's your load. I run mine mag length in factory 700. Seated all the way to last drive band. 1/8 crimp and get one hole groups. I had fire formed brass. I don't turn necks or weigh and sort

It has been awesome

Thanks

Buck

I like this along with HH 166.

I load 130gr barnes TTSX with varget at 3450 for deer. And have 180 accubond with staball 3010 for nilgia/elk or bigger.

I have a couple of Savage rifles in .300 WSM. One of them is loaded with 215 Berger at 2850 FPS with RL-17; as always, YMMV. As you can see below it is no slouch to 1KY.

Good luck!

Feenix, great info thankyou. I'm yet to load or use my new 300 wsm and was just wondering how you find the performance of the 215 at closer ranges, say sub 200 yards?

I am running the 178 ELDX at 2960 with RL17 and this is on the low side of powder charge. I was all the way up to 3151 and seeing no pressure signs and figured there was another node right around there, but knowing RL17 can be a barrel burner I found a great accurate load at 2960 and ran with it. I purposefully left my charge weights out since every rifle is different but I really like the RL17 after trying several other powders in my rifle.

For over a decade, my main hunting rifle was a light and practical Browning 300WSM. It dispatched 3 of my 4 sheep, along with elk, bear, and deer along the way. I loaded it with 168g TTSXs behind RL17. If I ever get around to it, I too would love to try the 166g Hammer Hunters in it and I wouldn't hesitate to take it on any hunts going forward.
