30-378 with 175 Grain LRX

Boman

My friend has a 30-378 and he is shooting 180 nosler e tips out of it. We both shot bears with it this spring. His was a big boar broadside at about 30 feet. Shot it twice once from each side just because it was close and didn't really run after the first shot because it was coming in to an elk calf call. Excellent performance with little meat damage even though he was in the shoulder a little. Mine I shot at 80 yards head down straight on. Impact was just outside the neck 1 or 2 ribs back from the front of the ribcage. Penetrated full body including hip ball joint and full hind quarter then got stuck under the hide outside the back of the hindquarter. He was ecstatic we finally caught a bullet from that rifle and it was a picture perfect mushroom. The shot actually flipped the bear up and over backwards. Never took a step or flinched after hitting the ground once flipped over. I have a picture of the bullet I can post when I'm not on my phone. Just a good average size Montana bear. I realize you are asking about Barnes LRX but I think results will be similar. He isn't pushing it hard either probably 3100 fps. Shoots well to 1000

Not super fast but decent results I would say

Tried the 175 LRX in my 30/378 this am. I used a max safe load of RL 33 (115grs in my case) with a Wea case and Federal 215. OAL was 3.790. I tried 2 groups of 3 shots. Accuracy was 1.5 MOA and vel was 3405 ft/sec. Not crazy about the grouping, but vel was good. maybe I'll try and tweake the OAL and see if it gets better. Do you guys have any suggestions.

What was you Final load on the 30-378 ( User) Fotis ? I was using 208 hornady eld match , 215 pr. 101 H1000 . 1 in 9 Twist , 28 inch barrel with 2 " brake . Got about 3,250 fps , great accuracy but , i didnt like the copper lead separation . On deer sized game would probably be okay but , at A distance , and on bigger elk ,moose, bear ,NO NO , NO !!! Trying accubond 250 a 9.3 mm 365 Riozzi mag in a custom Weatherby . 378 40 ° ? shoulder case because i cant get lrx barnes , LR accobond in 9.3 . You can E mail me at [email protected] thank you !

Good to see you POP. Hopefully someone with experience will chime in with your question. Things are a bit different here now than they used to be. It is pretty much an all Berger all the time crowd here now. I would love for you to give our Hammer 181g a go. It will survive any high vel impact and function perfectly down to 1800fps or less. Although we have decided to keep 1800fps as a min just because we feel that speed aids in a clean kill. We have tested them lower and they do still function correctly. You should be able to run them in your 30-378 in the 3400 to 3500fps nicely.

Thanks buddy. I have a huge amount of experience with the 30-378 Bee. Here is my last group. 200 Accubonds at 3240 FPS. I have shot many other bullets but never the 175 LRX. Hoping for 3400 to 3500 with the 175 LRX and maybe better accuracy!
