Bird gobbled 15 minutes before light. Had to cover a lot of ground quick to get into position before he saw me. Set up in the open woods, not any cover, just large open woods. After a few minutes of him gobbling on the roost, a gang of jakes opened up to his right and above me. They really did some gobbling! I had a single hen decoy out about 15 yards above me. Saw him fly off the roost and gave him an excited fly down call and he starts my way. Came in strutting and drumming for about 60 yards. Took the shot at about 40 yds. Nice bird, almost 24# 10"Beard and 1" spurs.

Isn't that how it should happen every time? Maybe strut around the decoy for a few minutes but hey...We can't worry about the small stuff like that right?
Good hunting!
