Ok guys I have 2200, imr 4064,varmint, black, tac, and AR comp..trying to build a round for a savage axis 270 for my son. 150 gr for deer hunting...anyone have one they already built with one of the powders for savage axis? Why reinvent the wheel at least to start with?

All those powders are too fast for 270 win using 150gr bullets.

I suggest you find some 130 gr bullets and go with the IMR-4064. Start at 46gr and work up from there. I didn't see pressure even at 49 gr - but that is over book max.

I'm not sure how old/big your son is, but 46.5 gr shot great for me with Interlocks at around 2900 fps and is very mild.

I run Hornady 130 gr GMX bullets. Running right around 3053fps with 4064, on everything up to and including moose and bear. It is a solid bullet, great expansion light recoil and incredible accuracy. My rifle will shoot half inch group at 200yrds.

Scit, perhaps you could trade some of your current powders for a more 150gr/.270 Win slower powder. A huge number of.270 Win shooters swear by H4831/H4831SC being the holy grail for 140/150 gr bullets. Good luck

Reloder 23 and 26 have been great in several 270 I load for top speed and great accuracy, the 23 has been showing up alot more lately 26 not so much but it does from time to time

IMR 4831 & 140 accubonds 5 shots .35. Out of a pre 64 model 70 at 2980fps
