I kicked up a fork muley @ 0830 today; he stopped but I didn't have a shot -- sun on my face. I ran into 28 muley does -- normally take does for meat but the area I'm hunting is off limits on does.

Half an hour later, I ran into the the muley fork again. This time, the sun was on his face an never knew I was there. Range him at 311 yards but the wind was howling at 25 MPH from L-R of the target. Made the necessary corrections and sent the 175 Matrix @ 2993 FPS at the muzzle.

Not a trophy or LR but we're taking the meat to our son in FL for Thanksgiving. It should be good eats!

Wow 2900+ FPS with a 175gr? That's impressive in a 270! I've always wanted to build a 270ai. What are the specs on your rifle and load?

Thank you all!

Savage 110 LA Lilja 30" SS 1:8" 3-groove #6 contour (.750" at the muzzle), JP Enterprise Beenie Cooley MB, B&C duramaxx, factory trigger self-tuned to 3 LBS, all gunsmith work by Dave Young (Sandee Coule, MT), Burris Veracity 4-20x50, and Horus Vision ASLI ...

The rifle pix are taken on one of the spots I elk hunt (~7500' elevation) and the target was my last cold bore shot at 200 yards before the hunting season.

wow, awesome place to hunt Feenix. Feel blessed sir, not all of us get views and public lands like that!

Fenix how do you like the 30"tube. I'm putting the pieces together for a .270 ai to shoot the new Bergers. I was think about a 24 with a break.

Sorry for the late response. I really like it for my intended purpose. The 30" tube is definitely not for everybody; it poses some challenges going through the thickets and off hand shots as well as the weight at ~12 lbs hunt ready but mine was for a dedicated LRH and still take them atop the Montana wilderness. :D

24" should serve you well just make sure you have a 1:8" twist. I'd personally go with 26"; you can always shorten it later if you changed your mind but not the other way around. I had the same intention with my 30" but I have gotten used to it and kept it as-is.

Good luck and happy safe shooting/hunting.
