can someone tell me what the factory ammo overall length for a 264 win mag,and is there some place this info can be found for other rounds, thanks

It really depends on what bullet style the ammo has but most factory ammo is loaded quite short for this reason. When Winchester came out with the 264 Win mag they loaded a two diameter bullet. The front half of the bullet was less than .264 and would bore ride up into the lands. Winchester M70 rifles have short throats so with bullets of conventional shape they have to be seated really short to fit these rifles. The only factory ammo I have is a box of older Remington 100 gr Core Loket and the COAL is 3.170 . I have a custom built 264 win mag on a Rem 700 mag action with a Shilen barrel 27 3/4" long with a chamber throat that will allow me to load a 130 gr Nosler Accubond out to 3.450 COAL and that be 10 thousands off the lands and this round works through the magazine fine. This loaded round looks like a Saturn V rocket. I use reformed WW 7mm mag cases CCI 250 primers, 66.5 grs Retumbo and the 130 AB and get 3350 fps and 1/2 moa accuracy. One deer slaying combo.

I have boxes of Winchester Super X white/yellow lettering with 140gr Power Point, they vary from 3.185"-3.195". My rifle won't shoot these at all, it's throated for a 140gr Accubond at a max COL of 3.390". Jump is .020".

Hope this helps.

Cheers.
