260 Rem Load Recipeies?

Ive been trying to get my hands on some h4350 for several months,I had some Varget and worked up this load

36g Varget
140 Amax
2600 (pretty slow)

Stiller tact 30 with 23" Bartlien

I haven't worked with 140 grain bullets but have had good success with 129/130 grain bullets using H4350, H4831sc and RL 19. RL 17 is close to 4350 and I have had ok success with it but nothing like the consistency and accuracy that the others have given me. My 2 cents...

Gunslinger- Looks really good to me.

Have you tried a higher node? Theirs a good node around 38grs with Varget with 140's and speed around 2700 fps

I'm having pretty good luck with 43.5g H4350 and 140g SMK .020 off the lands. I am using necked down .308 WRA 67 brass with CCI 200 primers. The brass is a little extra work but I bought 400 pieces dirt cheap so its worth the effort.

Checking in on this awesome thread. Just picked up a Savage M10 Predator in 260 with a 24" BBL and a 8 twist. Should be good for varmint loads and big game loads. Looking to shoot the NBT's in 120 for predators/varmints and either the 140 grain Berger or A-Max for big game. Topped the rifle with a 3x12x40 Vortex Viper so I should have a decent carry rifle.

My current load for my 260 rem 24" Criterion 1:8 twist match chamber .160" throat.

140 Hybrid .016" OTL
Lapua Case
Wolf LR
H4831SC or H4831
46.5grs
2.940" COL

Avg speed is 2800 fps and great ES 12/ 7 for 10 shots.

what size groups? I have a 26" Shieln select match, 1:8 twist, have not shot it yet. thanks for the info.

The load will easily shoot .3 to .4 group at 100 yards. The only distance I measured was at 700 yards and recorded a 3 1/2" group with 4 shots and vertical was 2" in 3 mph wind. H4831 is working outstanding for me.

Great groups. I have some in stock. Have you tried IMR 4064, IMR 4350, XBR 8208 or RE-19?

I have tried H4350, Varget and IMR4064 but only with 130 vld's. I wasted a lot of H4350 trying to get it to shoot. Switched to Varget or IMR4064, and was tack driving the 130's. Velocity was slower, but accuracy was outstanding. I did experiment with a little Varget and 140 Hybrids. Had great potential , but H4831SC was the clear winner in my rifle.

4831 good to go in my 260 bolt action I have 140 vld bergers, 140 hornaday bthp and 139 laupa scenar. The 4064 and 4350 I'll try running in my Ar 308 with 168 bthp nosler. I have to do more research with the r-17 and r-19. I have been collecting reloading supply's for the past year along with some rifle builds since I retired. I have read so many books and articles while working on my gun room and it is almost complete. Thank you and all the others whom have contributed to my learning curve. lightbulb

I have been reading info on here for a couple years. Haven't posted much.

I have a .260 Savage Model 11 with a Vortex Viper HSLR scope. I'm trying to work up a load with 130 gr Swift Scirocco II bullets because I like the 130 grain weight and speed combo along with the nice BC of the swift bullets. Eventually I may try some Nosler Accubond LR bullets but until they become easier to find I can go to a store locally and get the Sciroccos of the shelf.

Anyway I started with Bergers OAL length method then moved to a 300 yard ladder followed by a second ladder. Current load is 43.7 gr of H4350 loaded to 2.151" ogive giving me velocities averaging 2830 fps. The problem is this load seems to have at random one or less shot per group that flies right 5-6" at 300 yards and I did not notice anything on the shot to make me suspect the accuracy of the shot.

I also followed the same procedure with Ramshot Hunter hoping to get a load that would meter really well. Have only shot the hunter load at 100 46.3 gr loaded at 2.151" ogive. The hunter load is ever so slightly faster coming in at 2843 fps. The hunter may be starting to show signs of pressure on the primers but no other signs detected.

If you have any suggestions please share. I would really like to get these bullets to fly great but am having a hard time improving much more than 1" +/- a little.

I shoot my 260 and 700-1000 yards. Anything less is boring.  I don't go fast, most of the time ~2750 but can go faster. More a target rifle but with the new LRX...

Of course each rifle is unique but:

I believe I've got it down to a formula rather than a recipe:

Get some H4350. Yes, other powders can "work" but have compromises that H4350 doesn't.

1) Determine the max COAL for the bullet chosen.
2) Use the "recommend" distance from or into the lands for the bullet chosen.
3) Determine what a 90% case capacity charge of H4350 is based on your chosen COAL.
4) Ensure that this minimum load is "reasonable" by cross referencing to at least 2 manuals and QL or 3 manuals. Bring it up if below references. BE SAFE.
5) Load a string using your favorite method. Ladder, OCW, OBT or combo.
6) Fine tune.

This got me:

Nosler brass
140 A-Max
42gn H4350
Fed 210M
2.985 COAL = .005 off.
2730fps

or

Lapua brass
140 A-Max
44.1gn H4350
Fed 210M
2.985 COAL
2853fps

The 140 AMAX has been stellar in 3 260 rem rifles I own with either H4831 or H4350. I give the accuracy edge to 4831 both are sub MOA though. I have tried the 130 Swift 130 and not near as accurate. I have tried 4350, 4831 and W760 performance for the SS2 has been mediocre in comparison to the 140's.

I really like the SS2 but the best I can get it to shoot is about 1.5 MOA for 5 shots.

Good luck and shoot straight

Bob
