Some might have seen this in the classified section, but wanted to share here for anyone on the fence about the .257 95gr eld-vt and "recommended 8 twist". Found load data with powder I wanted to try and picked a OAL, and they show promise. 😆

****No BS here, this is a bone stock 257Roy 10T rifle. @ 100 yd. L-R I went up 1/2 gr increments and all 9 rounds are the same BTO length and fed from the mag with oodles of room. With seating depth work I'm confident I could get .5" or less. **** After measuring, L-R .5 , .75 , .75 ****

FPS average 3400 across the board and absolutely no pressure.

3400 seems awfully slow to me for that weight class of bullet. I'm getting 3550-3700 ish out of every bullet I've tried in the roughly 100gr weight class. 3700 for the hammers, 3550 for 101Lrx (ran out of case capacity, was trying N570), 3635 for 100TTSX and H1000, and the speer's hot Cor were 3675ish with 7828ssc

I'm using RL16 and still have throttle to go before I see pressure, So I'll speed them up to pressure signs. Was looking for if the bullet had potential from a 10T barrel was all on this outing.

I have a load for the 134's, but after a couple of crawl-offs on rock chucks I quit them. The 135 Bergers kill very reliably. Almost always a bang/flop with a quarter sized exit. That would have been better for this shot. I just got to where I prefer a higher velocity round for coyotes as I have a much better kill ratio on follow up shots when I dont have time to range. I've been liking the 110 ELDX's at 3130 fps and have taken coyotes out to almost 900 with that. I like my Wheeler 30-28/230 Berger combo for long shots. Wind callls are pretty easy.

I'm kinda surprised that the recomended twist rate for the 95gr is 1:8.

Heck, I'm shooting a 120gr Sierra HPBT GameKing through 1:10.
If I understand the eld vt correctly it's basically a target profile bullet that's long and sleek with almost the whole front half of the bullet hollowed out. So while the weight of the bullet is low the length is long and requires more twist for stability.

Yes, the OAL length of this 95gr is long, the bearing surface is relatively short so I'm not sure why hornady recommends a 8T, 🤷‍♂️ when the target above was shot with a 10T

Take the bullet length and check with Jim ballistic stability predictor.

I should snag a box and try em in my 10 twist 25-06

Very nice, I'm looking forward to trying them in my upcoming 25 creed for my all around bullet from varmints to culling does.
