Has anybody tried the 240 grain Woodleigh Weld-core 30 cal bullet? The new Hornady cartridge, the .300 PRC, is designed to accommodate extra long bullets. Maybe the Woodleigh 240 grain would be a good fit. Has anybody tried it with the 300 Win Mag or 300 Wby? I bet any load with that bullet would kick like a mule.

Hey there, no experience but also been intrigued by this for a while. I have tried the ultra heavy 180 grain .270 caliber woodleigh. It didn’t keyhole but wasn’t accurate either (as in 4-5 inch group at 100). Reason I bring that up is both the 180 270 and the 240 30 are advertised to work with ordinary twists and while it technically did it wasn’t optimal. But the prc with its aggressive twist and generous leade ought to be perfect. It’s actually designed around 30-06 velocities but it’s a core bonded heavy as all
Get out bullet, Nathan Foster’s ballistic studies site sees positive report of its use in a .30-378 wby as a very emphatic killer, peeling all the way back while penetrating tremendously. Go for it!

I've shot the 240 Woodleigh in several 30-06 rifles, very accurate. While I have not killed any game with it, it was easy to get 2400fps from a 24 inch barrel with IMR 4350 and the like. I will use one an a big hog someday. Big hogs are wonderful "bullet testers" to me! :) I also like the Hawk 190 FN ( .030" jacket) in the 30-30. I easily got 2200 in the standard 30-30/Marlin 336 and then almost 2400fps with it when Ackleyed. Again, the deer didn't co-operate. :) You figure the old Savage .303 used a 190 at 1900fps and killed all kinds of Northern big game. I still believe the old heavy soft nose still "hit them a lick", good thumpers.

I have used the Speer 220 grain and Nosler 220 grain in the 30-06 on pigs. Works great!
