223 keyholing

My brother in law has a new remington 700 varmint sps 223 that is key holing. The bullets are a 68 grain. Any ideas?

Have you checked the twist with a tight patch or brush?

Need more data on the rifle.
Is this a factory load or your own loads?
If it's factory - who's is it?
What's the MV?
What's the distance to target?

Yep, bullets aren't stabilized. the sps comes with a 1:12 twist... too slow for 68 gr. pills.

That is what I told him and he tried some 55 gr and it is grouping good now

With that 12" twist you can use most 60 gr and lighter bullets but nothing over 60 because they are too long.

I have one of the sps.
I use
53gr Barnes tsx flat base
25.5grs ramshot tac
fed small rifle match
Winchester brass
neck sized
.150-.200 groups at 100 yrds. very flat, good accuracy out to 300yrds.

u will like this load. I also use this bullet in my 22-250AI.

As said above twist is too slow for 68 OTM. I've had good luck with 52 SMK.
