215 hybrid, 300 wsm, RL-17

Went to the range today for second time testing 215 hybrid. First time out I shot a ladder of 9 rds. In .5 grain increments from 61-65g... RL-17 (Caution possible high pressure start low work up). Got good results. So I loaded up some in same charge weights in Nosler brass, CCI 250, 215 hybrid at different seating depths. I am shooting these out of my tikka T3 24 3/8" barrel (1-11 twist). Bedded, floated,steel recoil lug and Nightforce. Best load shot today measured 1.100" ctc.@ 260 yds. This load was seated .010" off of lands. Tried 2 other depths same charge further from lands not as good. Not done with testing but liking results so far. ( for mostly factory gun )

Nice work. What velocity? I always thought the 215 would be a perfect combo with the 300 WSM for big game.

I made a load for my friend's 22" Browning A-max also a 300 WSM but used 230 gr target hybrid. Should have used 215s BUT the 230s (which I had on hand) ended up working just fine. Velocity was 2720 fps. That bullet worked very well with a double lung shot on a cow elk at 300 yds last year.

Haven't shot it over chrony ( need new one). When I shot this same charge with 180's it ran 3090 fps. Not sure difference I'm gonna see. When I finalize a load. I will need to validate it not only for velocity but, BC. also. Bryan lytz said I could expect a 5-10% decrease in BC. Due to marginally stability. Some thing that would need validated and checked for loss of stability at elr. Due to 1-11 twist.
