2024 Wyoming non-resident rules…confusing?

Maybe I'm reading into it too much or I'm just an idiot. But not sure what the new 2024 rules are other than 3 distinct areas for non-resident elk hunts/tag. My plan is/ was to hunt the eastern non-resident area Unit 16 "Gun" Cow tag…I'm a meat hunter only…just looking to fill my freezer And enjoy the hunt and outdoors. I've been successful the last 2 year just trying to figure out if or what has changed. Thanks in advance.

Here is what you need to know. This only applies to Non-resident General elk tags. The State is broken into 3 Regions. Each region has a set number of tags to issue. This does not apply to Limited quota tags or Residents.

Yes they are…..you darn near need a good attorney to help you through the regulations. He has to be good though, to work through the confusion that the Wyo. G&F seems to intentionally put into the regulations. memtb

The change is that previously if you drew a general tag you could hunt any general unit statewide. Now a general will be limited to the general units in one of the 3 regions.

And if you apply in the Special Draw you have to empty all your pockets now!

Dream to go hunting in this beautiful state. But unfortunately the cost of a tag/license is absolutely insane. I guess in my next life when I am rich I could hunt this land.

Yeah I just paid for a full price cow/calf tag was $724 I think….same price it's been the last 2 years…but the price of the non resident bull tag went from about $1500 to a lil over $1900. Thank goodness I'm just trying to fill the freezer and not chasing horns!

NR tags cost a lot anywhere. I paid Alaska $1000 for a brown bear license and $1600 to New Mexico for an oryx tag. Gotta pay if you want to play!

its 3 regions this year. If your in the mountain, your basically applying for the western unit area. Units are still general.
