Competitive Shooting

Good job, grandpa.

I think every kid who has the desire to shoot rifle should learn how to with irons.

Get them interested in across the course CMP matches. It will be fun to watch them make their run to reach their distinguished rifleman badge.

I am envious, I could get my only grandson interested in any kind of shooting.

I did the opposite with my son, I have a scope on my Ruger 1022, so when he started a couple of years ago, it was from the bench with that rifle. Last year I bought him a Cricket rifle and he has been shooting open sights since then, and he shoots offhand now, as mentioned on a previous post.

He likes silhouettes more than paper targets, which is fine by me, as I prefer silhouettes as well.

All that said, I agree they have learn how to shoot both.

If a guy is really SERIOUS about getting his LR hunting rifle to shoot its absolute best, start shooting LR BR. Thats how you will learn to tune. There is no other way to learn all of the stuff that goes into tuning a LR rifle. Its not consolidated online, its not in a book, its in the heads of those competitors. Plus youll fit right in most LR BR guys also hunt lr.

Exactly what I began doing last year. BR shooting at 1000 yards will make you scratch your head and put you in your place (humble). I have learned a lot and still learning.

By the way, those bug hole groups at 100 yards may not translate to good groups at a 100 yards, but Alex knows that.

I would throw a pitch for Highpower in order to hit the animals at long range in field positions. We have had bad luck in the last week, last weekend at Vale our good man Dave Brown was not available and hopefully still here on the planet so no match. then last night for the silhouette match we had lightning so the match was called. tomorrow is a leg match and Sunday is 3, 20 shot matches prone at 600. Maybe my grandson can beat me.

If any body here is near Boise, there is going to be another of the fun matches on August 1st. It is called the Lord Roberts match after the record holder in the British military for the most hits on a silhouette target at 300 meters using an Enfield rifle, a bolt gun. Lord Roberts hit 38 hits which is amazing. lots of military people could make 36 hits. The shooters would pull the trigger with the little finger and never take their hand off the bolt. This included reloading the rifle using stripper clips. I shoot a bolt gun in Highpower and we have 2 events in each match which are rapid fire so I have a lot of practice with rapid bolt manipulation and the most I have gotten in this match is 14 hits which is not even starting to get where the Brits were, my hats off to them. Any way if anybody is close to here this is a very fun match, you need a military bolt action rifle and 100 rnds or so of ammo as you get 3 try's. come out this is very fun
