In our Remington 700s with factory barrels, we shoot the 175g Nosler long range accubond, kissing the lands, bullets sorted by ogive length with amazing groups with R#26 at 3030 fps and R#22 at 2870 fps. Sorting by ogive length and kissing the lands are where the keys to the Kingdom lie. These 175g LRAB put a lot of shock on a deer, amazing.
We have not extended the throats in our rifles, but I do install a Wyatt's mag box that gives me a lot of extra length.
I have barrel blanks and two 7 Rem mag reamers waiting, but the factory barrels just keep shooting amazing.
Many, many people have trouble with the 175 LRAB because they vary by .020 in ogive length, then they just seat to mag length, praying for a good outcome, but often it is pitiful results. My brother has the same experience with the 168s. Again, Both of these bullets like to kiss the lands or a tiny bit of jam, which demands consistent ogive lengths and long magazine boxes, which will result in 3/8" or often smaller three shot groups that repeat. The two issues of mag box length and kissing the lands demands a different approach on action and mag box choice for best results. The groups at 600 yards with a 6x24 scope are shocking in how good they are.
