There's just something I can't quite quantify about a warm 25 cal.No no no Mr. Phil! Haven't you heard? Now that the .22 creedmoor is a thing and a purported 600 yard elk cannon, the 257s are soon to be regarded as foolishly overkill, at least for anything on this continent or at least the lower 48. I mean maybe a person would be justified using that kind of quarter-bore artillery on a Nunavut walrus, or a bison in the NWT, or a big British Columbian coastal brown bear, an Alaska/Yukon monster moose, or a polar bear at the garbage dump in Churchill Manitoba, or one of those random huge imported exotic species they purportedly have in Texas…to say nothing of the supposed "super-hogs" we have here in Saskatchewan but I have yet to observe anywhere haha…just for peace of mind…..
But really, in 2026 there's no reason other than machismo to shoot a big game rifle bigger than .224" bore diameter.
Sarcasm of course…but dang it I realize I'm just listing hunts that would be a dream come true one day in my life (besides shooting a polar bear at a garbage dump…although a hunt is a hunt
But it's real. And there is no unpleasant recoil associated with the impressive results!

Some bore diameters seem to be like that, I heard it described as an intangible "x factor" that those who have used them just know haha. I'm with you on the warm 25s. And 35s. And 45s. Now that I think about it, so long as it the second digit after the decimal place (assuming non-metric nomenclature) is a 5, the magic is there
But actually, I never should have sold my .358 Norma (story of my life). And I've loved working with the 257 weatherby. And my 450 Ackley is a hoot!

That is what I use for the WSM. There is no need to use a LA on the WSM unless you have a free bore length that push's the bullet out significantly to require it. Both of my WSM rigs have extended Wyatt internal mags which gives me all the room needed and allow for easy round racking up a 133 Berger seated at .020 off.
How are you guys doing with barrel life on your 25 7prc? I've got one with roughly 300 rounds and it has slowed down considerably. It still shoots great but has almost. 080 throat erosion. I'm gonna blame it on n570 and n560 but I'm disappointed.
Those 2 are definitely eroders.

it shot 134's at 3175. Currently it's at 2990. Probably won't even wound something at that speed.

The barrel length kills velocity but it's a suppressed hunting rig.
In a long case like that, velocity loss appears worse per inch.
With H4831 you'll probably give up 100fps.
I'd add to my charge weight and get back close to original velocity and let er rip, may keep precision for another 300 shots easily.
Try R23 if you have access to it. Burns cooler than H4831 and is stable. Normally faster also, basically same burn rate. Here is a reference using QuickLoad data.

I didn't realize n560 is even hotter than n570. My initial load development and the majority of rounds through the barrel are with n560. I only switched to n570 after speed began to fall off. Realistically, with any powder, shooting 134's @3100+, is this a 400 round cartridge before velocity falls off? I didn't think velocity even stabilized until it had around 100 rounds. Hot rodding ain't cheap.
Makes R23 looks better, even though it's expensive.
Your bullet simply has more distance to engage the lands, this doesn't mean the barrel is toast, but the throat has eroded. If you want, get 1/2" cut off and rechamber.
