Short, I know, but this is what Barnes requires for TSX bullets loaded in the 45-70.

I kept picturing 1885, not the 1886. Wondering why the talk of lever guns. I just got out of bed...

@Elk868 , the modern miroku 1886 can shoot the Marlin 45-70 safely. There's some info on the internet about this but it's relatively sparse.

Prepare your self for some serious recoil

Looked at my notes. The copper bullets are long for weight so COAL is an issue for my Browning Miroku rifle. For the 300 grain Shock Hammer I had to trim the Starline brass from 2.098 to 2.043 for a COAL of 2.54 for my chamber.

But no risk no fun . And I think I will get me pads for shoulder
No I fired a lots different guns in my life . Worst was 460 Weatherby in sitting position .

It was basically me who requested help for a load to feed my Winchester 1886 . Reload the 4570 is new to me !

1886 in 40-65. My grandfather found it under a collapsed cabin in the sierra-nevadas in the 50s. The bore was packed with grease. Hell of a score!!!

7mm Man, that is one sweet 1986. I have my Great Grandfathers 1886 45-90 . Mine isn't in as good of shape as the one you have. . This week a old college buddy showed up at the gun club with a list of stuff from a estate that he is selling. On the list was 300 rounds of new Bertram brass, RCBS dies and 80 rounds of factory of 45-90 ammo. $200.00 . I closed the deal today and I'm shi........ ing in high clover. My goal this year is to leave the Prc's and the Rum's in the safe and harvest a mule deer with his 1886 45-90 on the the ground that he settled on in 1896.

big johnson, you are one lucky dude! One, you got a family rifle and didn't have to pay a fortune to get it; and then you got lucky again and got all the reloading and ammo for it ...for a song! You need to buy a raffle ticket!
Just want to remind you that the early 86s did NOT have the nickle steel barrels so you have to shoot lead bullets. The later ones do have that wording on their barrels. I have one of the early models in 45/90 and it shoots awesome to 130 yards. My has the steel curved butt plate that hurts to shoot; so I got a shotgun style stock to go on it and that really helped the recoil pain. Even with a light load of smokeless powder, those heavy bullets do cause recoil! LOL.

I have been wanting to shoot the 40-65. It seemed like every time I found brass on Gunbroker for a decent price someone snags it for the buy now price. I need to get my butt moving and at least get some handloads going. Starline makes brass but they never have any in stock, which makes me think they have not made any in a long time. That sucker is heavy too. Probably would be just fine for deer stand hunting though.

Bug them and bug them and bug them. Then watch the site daily. You'll likely have to submit your order when the color circle is amber. If it's red, it won't allow you to order at all. Don't even hope for rare lines of production to be green.

Once as I was a boy age 12 there was Paganini stickers about western heroes and they're guns. I had no clue about rifles but 45/90 and 8 round Magazin was very impressive for me . So I asked grandpa to buy me this rifle but he said if ur 18 and hunting license I gift you a rifle . Well he passed away before I have had my license and I forgot about . And now I already had some rifles and remembered this. I wanted to have a 45/90 and was going even to Browning Europe to get it but no chance . So this is also bit something like grandpas rifle .

Just measured one time fired Hornady leverecolution cases 45/70 . Fired them with my miroku Winchester 1886 . Aswell I agree full cases are important . So I did play bit with Quickload and figured that 44 grain N120 will fill a case to 99,7% .
I will continue with this . Think they will work without shorten them Aswell I will crimp them.
