Good day, all. This ammo was just released for the 44 Magnum. Being in Michigan I have used a Ruger 44 Magnum Deerslayer, Semi-Auto Carbine for deer hunting. Is this 1960's rifle rated for the +P ammunition? I would like to use this all copper bullet for hunting. Specs are below. Any information or recommendations would be appreciated. According to the bullet manufacturer, these bullets "will work in the Ruger 44 Semi-Auto Carbine as well as all platforms that can handle +P ammunition". How do I know if this rifle is rated for +P ammuntion? I purposely left out the manufacturer, as I didn't want to break any forum rules. Thank you in advance for your experience and knowledge. Thank you for your replies. The 44 +P magnum ammo is new by Bear Creek Ballistics; and that was their reply, verbatim. I was thinking I should reach out to Ruger and ask , but without chamber pressure for this new load, they may not be able to answer this question either. Thanks for your insight. HunterLV

I have a ruger carbine in 44 mag . This is very interesting to me . I was just thinking the other day about using the tipped hornady instead of the lead wad cutters .

I have a 16" Rossi all stainless in 44 mag, with hand loads using 296, I cannot go more than half a grain over max before the lever gets sticky.
Unless the rifle says it can handle more than the 38,000psi, which is max for 44 mag, then I wouldn't risk it in a semi-auto, as pressure is important for function in that system…

Cheers.

What exactly is +P 44 mag ammo?
If the manufacturer of the ammo can't tell you chamber pressures, I doubt the manufacture of the gun is going to tell you its ok to shoot. Especially since there is no saami +p 44 mag specs.....it may be marketing hype or it may actually have higher chamber pressures than saami 44 mag specs-- either way I'm betting you will have to make your own decision since there are no official specs for +p 44 mag ammo.

Have tried addressing your concern directly with Ruger?

ADDED:

The only restrictions I've seen is on cast bullets.

Also, the ammo is meant for single shot.

Again, it is best to address it directly with Ruger. I know it is OK, with Ruger #1

Iirc Garrett cartridge Co actually lists their chamber pressure for their "44 mag +p" ammo and it is about a 21% increase at 43500psi vs the saami spec of 36000psi BUT since there is no "official 44 mag +p specs"-- a company can choose how high to load it so the ammo you are looking at may be more or less than gcc's load.

Usually proprietary +p ammo is designed for guns like the Ruger Blackhawk, tc contender, no.1, and firearms designed to shoot 454c cartridges....you may have issues with a gas operated rifle

Ruger 44 carbine likes the hotter loads to function.
But like it has been said what is to hot.
I would like to know what factory ammunition that is hot enough for a Ruger 44 carbine to reliably cycle

Thank you all for your advice and recommendations. After review, it may not be worth the extra feet per second using the +P in this carbine, if all of my shots are under 100 yards. Thank you all. HunterLV

While the Deerslayer is a stout action, one should remember the headaches Ruger had with cracked forearms form warm/hot loads when the rifles were in production. As they are no longer in production, my bet would be replacement stocks are unobtainium

I load 23.8 gr of H110 with a 240 gr soft point for a Marlin carbine. It is more than adequate for deer and pigs.
