NF NX8 vs Leupold Mark 5

I'm not anti leupold guy either lol. I shot them for three seasons. But I will 100% learn from others misfortunes instead of just turning a blind eye to them to suit my desired agenda. They just started dropping like flies around me once I spent more time shooting with other people. Pulled them off my guns. Maybe I could have shot them forever without a mechanical issue.... maybe not though.

I think there is nothing worse than trying to figure out what made a shot miss by any part other than wind when you have left no stone unturned from brass prep, bullet sorting, bedded actions, scope rails, scope rings, etc. and have practiced extensively at long range then miss a shot that should be a slam dunk.... it's like you got cheated on so you go get a new girl.
I've had the VX-5 & VX-6 and 2 March's go down after a lot of dialing but not a MK5, NF, S&B. Really watching James at Barbour Creek testing the Athlon Cronus, he dials it all day long while watching TV and will retest the tracking in a month. They are using them on their school rifles so they get a lot of use.

People miss its that simple.Dont care if you a world record shooter, everyone has a slip up.Just ask them

Seen alot of S&B go down. No one's safe. Why I pamper my glass. Everyone's got a story on every manufacturer.

Typically most scopes go down too improper install and a lot of guys think theyre doing it right.

They are what probably 8 out of ten 2 mile competitors are using (7-35). I cannot speak to the cheaper Leupolds but anything in the VX5 and up are great scopes. I like the NX8 and my smith really likes them. The 4-32 is his preferred scope over the ATACR. I don't think you can go wrong with either. I prefer the controls on the Luepold and the performance track record for a hunting scope. Just my experience and opinion.

I owned one Leupold. It failed. Sent it in for repair and sold it when I got it back. I would never have had confidence in it again. So why would I trust it again?

I have personally shot several dozen VX5, VX6, Mark 5, and Mark 6. I have had a few that would not track correctly. And I know of approximately 10 from shooting buddies that have failed.

All scope brands will have failures. Some much more than others. And some (like Leupold and Vortex) have a lot more known failures strictly due to the fact that there are 100x more out there than Tangent Theta or ZCO. And we all know when something fails, you are going to hear about it. But for me, when I see a failure personally, I take it to heart. There are brands that I would never own because of it.

I did a 1000yrd training class with Frank Galli and Mark from snipershide and they check each scope on everyones guns for accuracy of adjustment and the keep track of all the scopes and by far the Leupold's are they're least favorite scopes. while i was there 1 Leupold would move when you adjusted the power . i had a NX8 that day and it was a 98% scope. they both stated Kahles was the best , i now own 3 Kahles and do really like them 6-24 Skmer3 and MSR reticles are my favs

I totally agree......Every, and I mean every, brand has failures. I have had two Kahles and one Zeiss go down in flames. Zeiss sent a brand new scope which I immediately sold and Kahles had to go to Austria for several weeks.

I have seen top PRS shooters in the country cuss both Tangents and ZCOs at one time or another. These guys abuse the heck out of scopes so it is understandable. I also know several that run the MK5s and if there have been failures, I haven't heard of them or witnessed any at a match.

Knock on wood, I've had great luck with mine so far. But I can tell you if I ever personally witness a failure, you will see it for sale on here

K624i with the SKMR 3 is still my favorite scope for the money......

I am not saying they don't fail. I have just not had one fail and I have owned dozens. I have only had maybe a half dozen ever fail. Two were repaired and one replaced. The other two I can remember were out of warranty when they failed. They were a S&B klassic, got it back in a week still running it on 338 win mag Wby Mark V, a Japanese made Pentax Light Seeker 2, an IOR Valdada, (Both were out of warranty), an Athlon Midas Tac (a chip in the lens (replaced in a week), and a Bauch & Lomb 25 years ago that was repaired and sold. I have sent a couple of VX IIIs back to Leupold for service and to replace a reticle. Both took less than a month to get back, two weeks if memory serves me well. If I had to guess? I would say there are probably more Leupolds out there than any three or four other brands combined. Many of them 20 years old or more and still getting it done. I would love to know what the percentage is for every brand sold versus the number of repairs or failures they have? I will stand by my statement. Leupold makes a solid scope. The Mark V is tier 1.

I do know of one Leupold that failed on a hunt but it was not the fault of the scope. It was mounted crooked and the guy broke the windage knob trying to get it on target.

A lot of supposed scope malfunctions are user error. Even the best of us can miss. I killed five one year, one of those was off hand at just over 200 yards, DOA. I have bench rest groups that measure in the .0s. Hunted a deer for two years and had him one morning about 9:00 at 180 yards, scope was zeroed at 200. All I had to do was hold and squeeze on the big 140 class bruiser. The whole thing happened in about 5 seconds. In the excitement I held high and smoothed missed, not once but twice. It wasn't the scope. Buck fever can get the best of us. Killed one at 230 the next weekend same gun and scope.

If I wouldn't own a scope manufacturer that had failures, I would still be shooting with iron sights. Sometimes it is the luck of the draw. There is so much to consider when purchasing a rifle scope. Durability, optical clarity, weight, mounting space, reticle, focal plane, magnification range (low and high), turrets, and budget all can make for a tough decision. This is probably the topic that is the most debated in our hobby. I put a great deal of weight in opinions of those who have much more experience than me. Then, I pray my luck holds out when a plop down my $$$$.

NX8. I don't trust leupolds anymore. NX8 is a great scope

I had two mk5s that tracked and held zero but I don't like all the failure reports..
I also had an NX8 4-32 and hated it, I own $800 scopes that clowned it optically.
This is the best deal out there right now on an absolutely fantastic scope.
