Took a solo trip with my two horses into the mountains and came out with an old warrior of a buck. He's missing teeth and has a lot of scars on his face from rutting over the years. Also ran into some grizzlies and found a bull moose deadhead in the same area. I'm really a fan of my 28 Nosler Christensen Traverse.

How far was the shot and what bullet did you use?
Thank you, I actually saw this deer pushing a doe up a steep burn ridge from about a mile away and so I got back on the horses after getting ready to start a fire to warm up and glass for the day. I rode off the side I was on and then crossed the creek and up the other drainage to get closer. I tied up the horses and grabbed the trekking poles since it was so steep and slick. Tried getting above them and having a downhill shot but they were at the same elevation again when I saw them and they saw me. Luckily they couldn't smell me so they all stood still while I settled the crosshairs in at 150yds was all with a 175 Nosler ABLR out of my 28 Nosler. Found the bullet just under the hide on the opposite side. Once I shot I watched him slide down the ridge for a 100yds or better until a tree stopped him. Then I scooted him to a flatter spot so I could manage him a little better. Left my pack and a coat there on top of him while I hiked back to the horses and tried to find a route to get them up to where he was. Reason I left some items was due to all the grizzlies in that area and I saw a few on this outing.

Congratulations, enjoy this while you can. These are the memories you can cherish when you're a old dude like me. I can still remember packing into the West Elk wilderness in the early 80s. I really envy you right now.
