I was finally able to break away and visit my friends, Mark Simpson and James Eagleman, who own and run Barbour Creek Shooting Academy in Eufaula, AL. This week I loaded up the truck and took the 13 hour trip to visit and sit through their Level 1 course.

I was blown away by their professionalism, hospitality, accommodations, and level of instruction. James Eagleman is the instructor, and he is arguably one of the most experienced in the business.
He had four beginner students in the course, and he had them making first round vital hits on game sized steel targets out to 1k by the second day. They were not just pulling the trigger, they were reading wind and applying shooting techniques learned. This course is designed for the hunter that wants to become proficient in long range shooting.
Their courses are modestly priced and offer an incredible value for the money spent.

Joel, you should have told me you'd be in south/central Alabama... We'd have met up for a beer. Maybe next time.

We are all year round for the most part. You choose when is best for you

I've never been on a range longer than 100 yards. Can shooters "walk in" with their own guns and ammo and use the facility to get a taste of real long range shooting is about? I don't mean during class time or training sessions, just for long-range practice / sighting in / etc? Is it necessary to call ahead to make reservations?

Sorry for the question, but I didn't have much luck finding walk-in information on your website.

I don't think they open the range walk ins, but they do allow you to shoot your own rifles on the range after the class.
fmsniper will confirm that.
