AR Stoner upper

Hi fellas, anybody have experience with the AR Stoner upper in the 7.62x39 ? Or would I be better off with a quality 300 Blk.Out. It's going to be a used mostly for target practice and maybe hunting in the future, if Pa. Game Commision gives the OK.

Back in the day Stoner was a good brand. It was ran by E.M. Stoner, they man who built and designed the first AR rifles. I couldn't tell you about AR Stoner today, though...

If it's a good price, and you like the upper, give it a try and post up your results that way others will know it's still quality stuff. I'd be interested in reading your write-up about it.

I personally prefer the .300 BLK to the east-block 7.62x39... The .300 BLK seems to be a more accurate cartridge, too. Most AK's in 7.62x39's are not very accurate, from my experiences with them. 100 yards, you can hit someone in the groceries consistently, but not much beyond that as far as accuracy goes. Now, that said, I have not shot an AR-platform in 7.62x39...So I can't comment on that.

I do have a custom .300 BLK upper that I built back in 2015...Awesome cartridge. It keeps defying the critics and keeps amazing the fans. If you break it down for what it is, it is the most efficient 400 yards cartridge available today. Even my supersonic loads with 168 Bergers hold less that 15gr of H110... The most expensive part of reloading .300 BLK is the bullets. Surplus 5.56 brass I pickup at the range, then process them myself, and less than 15gr of powder, and a $0.05 primer, and you can reload super-high quality .300 BLK for around $0.50-$0.65 per round.

I went with a 16" barrel, so I wouldn't have to SBR my lower at the time. Now that I have the extra money, I'm thinking about SBR'ing my lower so I can drop down to a 10.5-12.5" barrel, and then put a can on it. I'm also waiting on the Hearing Protection Act to pass before I go buy a can... I hate waiting, which is why I haven't gotten one yet.

Personally I would go 300 blackout over 7.62x39 I like the fact that the blackout uses a standard AR bolt and magazines and brass can be easily made from 223/5.56 and if you choose to run suppressed there is a lot of info available on that for the 300. If I didn't reload and only shot factory ammo then the 7.62 would have appeal because of the plentiful but not terribly accurate Russian ammo. As far as Midway's AR Stoner line of parts I have no experience but judging from the reviews I don't think it's junk just budget minded parts. I think if 7.62x39 was my interest I would just pick up a AK their just about as customizable as an AR. A couple of other websites to check out are

Yep, I'm kind of leaning towards the 300 Blk. Out. One of my buddies has a RAR Ranch in the 300 Blk. Out and filled his 2 doe tags this year with it. One was shot at about 30 yards and the other a big doe was shot at about 100 yards. The bigger doe ran of a about 40 yards before she dropped but the smaller one went down right where it stood, it was shot it the ear. He was using Hornady 125 gr. SST bullets.

I have a noname AR in 7.62x39 that I got from "a1gunoutletllc" on gunbroker. My first ar and I luv it to death. Light, fast, accurate when worn in, cheap to run. Tried 6 diff ammo brands, types, weights, and have found that Silver Bear 123HP shoots smallest groups at 100,200, 300. For hunting ammo the best I have found is Silver Bear 123 SP. ar 7.62x39 is reasonable accurate, cheap to shoot as a .22lr, is a good <300y hunting round, and its the choice of the enemy (in case the shtf you can stock up on hp ammo for them) . One prob is the manufacturers are slow to develop consistent rounds. Fed and Win and Hornadyare prob the best, Wolf Mil Classic and Silver Bear are prob next in performance, all other brands are a crap shoot. But you can zero w the cheapo ammo and fine tune w your hunt ammo.
