Anyone actually USING a 338-06 and what do you hunt?

Anyone using a bolt action rifle in this caliber? If so what are you hunting and what sort of handload might you be using?

I've had my 338/06 since 96 it's a ruger action with a Krieger barrel. I've hunted bear hogs and Whitetails with it still one of my favorite guns. The 225 ttsx and 225 nosler partition both are my choices of bullets . Using imr 4350. 58.0 gr works best in my rifle

I have a Sako AV Fiberclass 338-06 AI which has been used to take moose in Alaska, elk and mule deer in Montana and whitetails in PA. Used 210 or 225 Nosler Partitions with Winchester 760, always gets the job done!

It's usually 225 partitions and H4350 for me. I used to love the 200gr ballistic tips when they were available.

I've used mine for everything here in WA (deer, elk and bear) with great results.

I appreciate the input gentlemen. Not much ga,e here in Ohio I can use it on but a dream trip to western states and a great outfitter to set me up, and I'll be firing at some really large animals.

At different times, I've had two .338 Win Mags in Ruger M-77's and really liked both rifles -- but sold them to buy something else. What else is new? The .338 is a very good caliber!

I don't have a 338-06 but that will be my next custom rifle. I once had a Win M-70 push feed in .270 Win with an MPI custom stock. I sold the rifle but kept the stock because I liked that stock so much. My plan is to buy a used M-70 action and have it re-barreled for 338-06 and put it in the MPI stock -- which will give me a relatively lightweight elk rifle. When I had the .270 Win stocked with the MPI, it weighed a little over 7 lbs scoped! The MPI stocked 338-06 should weigh about the same and will make a nice carry rifle!
