    Help with velocity numbers

I’ve fought this issue with a couple of rifles and have learned to do the reverse zero method. I input the velocity in my solver (Revic BR 4 in my case) and shoot at mid and long range targets. Mine are 656 and 1077 yards. If both are high or low by the same relative amount, I adjust the zero...

Ramblings and Such From Hunting Coyote

I’ve found many a coyote by doing a quick scan of the white-tailed deer that are always scattered around the hillsides here. Standing at attention with there tails straight out is how they say “coyote” to each other.

    Let’s see some coyotes!

Busy morning! Saw seven, got three, m-m-missed two. Not calling—spot and shoot at 350, 400 and 290 yards.

    Let’s see some coyotes!

Just got this male at 717 yards with the 25CM/135 Berger. First shot was through the liver and it ran a little ways and laid down. Missed the wind call by a few degrees. Second shot finished it at 776 yards.

    February Shooting Challenge

Probably doesn’t count because I didn’t have a tape measure with me. 25 CM, 135 Berger, prone on bipod 1.25” low, 2.5” left—missed the wind call!

Ramblings and Such From Hunting Coyote

Thanks fellas. I think I’ve probably been calling too much. I could get them to talk with group howls and pair howls, but they seemed to just keep going where they were going. I guess I need to think in terms of making them curious rather than calling them out. It’s cattle country here, but...

Ramblings and Such From Hunting Coyote

I’ve got a question for Dave or other experienced callers. My coyote hunting has evolved to where I kind of specialize in long range spot and shoot hunting, and I’ve gotten quite effective at getting them without educating a bunch of them. I do call some in, but when several come in, I usually...

This is how a recovering alcoholic throws a New Year’s Eve party! It was a hit with the guests. They had a blast! Sorry🙄. 233, 265 and 612 yards.

Ramblings and Such From Hunting Coyote

I used the siren for the first time recently on some coyotes that wouldn’t talk. They answered and continued talking, but never showed themselves. Great tool, and I’m being careful not to overuse.

I also had someone recently tell me that they pay more attention to what they cal the major and minor, which is when the moon is directly overhead or directly underfoot, regardless of faze. So I’ve been paying attention to that as well, but haven’t come to any conclusions.

Ramblings and Such From Hunting Coyote

I went ridge running a new area the other day thats full of coyote sign. I was out at daylight and only saw one coyote (got it). But I saw two on the drive home late morning, which coincided with the moonrise. I saw five in that area the week before when the moonrise was earlier.

Ramblings and Such From Hunting Coyote

I had an interesting experience this morning. I took a friend to a new ranch coyote hunting. We were just doing spot and stalk ridge-running when I saw a couple of coyotes napping in a little draw out of the wind. He isn’t a long range shooter, so we moved up to a point about 150 yards from...
