40% off SWFA SS Super Sale — tough-as-nails scopes

I have/had the 6x 10x 12x 16x 20x fixed powers. The 6x died an untimely death when I went *** over tea kettle with it down the side of a mountain last fall. I snapped the elevation turret stem off. It held zero and I still took an antelope later that week. They warranties it and replaced it with...

Hornady 250 SST ML Bullet Disappointed

Decades ago, when I hunted in a shotgun/muzzleloader zone, I used that bullet in an MK85. Always had great results with it.

    Suprise

Hope your health continues to improve. I can relate on the health issues front. I was diagnosed with cancer in late august, prognosis is good but it hasn't been a fun end to the year. I've been owned by a few great pyrenees. For predator control, they are best off not by themselves.

    Mystery ranch backpacks

I have a mystery ranch pack I use for general hunting and shooting tasks. I also have a smaller MR pack for my 12hr search pack and a large MR pack for my unsupported search pack for search and rescue work. The SAR packs especially live very hard lives and the MR gear has held up well.

Rifle in .223 cal for LR practice

For me, my savage 12FV is perfect for this. I dropped it into a mdt xrs stock. I can bulk load 69smks over WIN 748 on a modified dillion 550. Great for practice, especially wind calls. It gets used for Prarie dogs, blasting crows off the trash cans and other general utilitarian purposes. It's...

    Autotrickler v4

I don't have firm data, but I do know it will throw a 60gr charge of Ramshot Big Game is less time than it takes to put the case in the press, place a bullet, seat it and place the loaded round in the MTM box. The next charge is waiting for me to put it in a case, I dont have to wait on the...

    Autotrickler v4

As far as over throws, do a calibration for the power you are using and adjust the ramp down settings. You can change the point at which it switches from the big barrel to the trickler and how fast they ramp down.

    More cold weather effect speculation

I don't think it will increase accuracy. I believe over spinning has more to do with the structural limitations of the bullet than it has to do with atmospheric conditions. I live in a cold climate and experiment with cold weather loads. Mostly .223 rem and .308 win off season practice stuff. I...

Garmin In Reach, or another recommendation

I have experience with being on the other end of it. The national dispatch center has been great to work with. Best advice I have is make sure your emergency contacts have your travel plan, list of equipment outfitting and an honest assessment of your skill level. We will be calling them, make...

Best long range hunting shot to date...

I knocked down an antelope with a 338 lapua at 1109 yds. It was a typical episode of Wyo Outfitters Behaving Badly, they were using ATVs driving antelope off public and on to private. Got ****ed off, grabbed the big gun and flattend a doe. DNR lady got a good laugh out of it.

    The black grey squirrel

Growing up in SE MI, I deer hunted on a farm that had fox squirrels the size of cats. They used to come in the blind and sit by the heater to warm up a bit. Took a buddy hunting there once and forgot to tell him about the squirrels. One came bouncing through the window and it was game on. Hand...

    Scary Thought on Primers

I use LP in 7.62x39 in my cz527 because I have 10s of thousands of them left from when I used to shoot hard ball matches. Loads have to be worked up, just like any other change in components.

    A&D FX120I and V4 worth it?

I don't find it to be significantly more accurate than tricking on a lee balance. I do find it to be a LOT faster. I started with a V1 throwing with a spoon and letting it trickle to charge weight. I like the automated scale. One thing I do wish it had was the ability to tweak when the trickler...

6.5 CM can you use small rifle magnum primers?

It's possible that using SR primers can reduce ES. The practice was really driven through research done by the US PALMA team in an effort to gain a competitive advantage. In the content on their forum they plainly stated they don't recommend it for cold weather or hunting due to the potential...

    Large rifle primers.

Yeah it's been frustrating. Picked up 2 bricks locally in the last two years for $75-100 ea. Was really hoping prices come down. Finally gave in and ordered 20k CCI small rifle at $100 a brick last week just to have them. I think these are getting commercially vacuum packed, GI canned and...
