So, no disrespect to anyone, but some of y’all might consider reading through some of the earlier posts. With that said, I do very much appreciate everyone’s input and suggestions.
I’ll have to check out the 22 Creedmoor. Never even seen one. Thank you for the suggestion! My only problem with it is some states won’t let you hunt deer with anything smaller than a 6mm bullet. We frequently hunt Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arizona, Colorado, Nebraska, and Utah.
So with all the wonderful suggestions and advice, we are currently thinking 6x45, 6.5 BR, or 6.5 Grendel...
I have shot both an AR and bolt Grendel and do like them. Just continuing the search to be sure we make the right choice. I do have a 6.5 sweed, 25-06, and 257 Rob, but think those may be...
Already have the .243 and also a 7-08 barrel for the rifle. Looking for something with less recoil until she’s able to handle the 243. She’s a tough little ranch kid, but want to make sure she has the best experience possible. Don’t want to jump from 223 directly to 243.
I’ll spend whatever it takes to make sure she always has a good experience and enjoys shooting and hunting! A few dollars is well worth a lifetime of enjoyment to share and pass along the tradition.
Just my opinion, but you don’t need a “magnum” to accomplish your goal with this build. I do have a 22” 28 Nosler running 195 Berger’s at 2850fps with h1000.
I also use :
7-08 with 16” barrel
a 7mm Mauser with 20” barrel
and a 280 Rem with 20” barrel
To practice and hunt out to 1000. What...
Thanks for all the input and experiences!
We already have her own .22lr. I have already decided on the stock, action, and have the barrels and bolts for
.223 Wilde
243
7-08
It’s dang hard to find that perfect in between cartridge! Yes, I do reload so everything is an option. Lots of great...
Muzzle blast was my second concern, and we make sure everything she shots is suppressed.... even the 22cb’s. We also make sure she always wears eye & ear protection. She already asks permission to touch any firearm, and won’t touch one without me or her mom around (we tested it with our home...
I’ve never seen the TCU cartridges, but very interested! I bet a 6, 6.5, or 7BR would be right along the lines I’m thinking.... Any idea how they compare to the Grendel?
