    Long range winter bull tahr!

Film #50! This time, a friend and I went in search of a good Winter Bull Tahr skin and head, and managed to secure one with a 485 metre shot! Enjoy!

Leupold Mk6 3-18x44 overview and tracking test

Thanks! They said "reworked adjustments" and that's about it... but it tracks now, and didn't for a start

Well the Mk6 came back from repair, and today I got around to testing it again.

Leupold Mk6 3-18x44 overview and tracking test

I bought a Mark 6 3-18x44 with the M5C2 turrets and TMR reticle. Here's a short overview of the features of the scope, and an admittedly, obviously, poorly designed and executed tracking test that nonetheless was rather illuminating.

    Long Range Rimfire Rabbits

I went for a walk this evening between rain showers, and shot some "long range" rabbits with my custom Savage MkII .22LR - "long range" in this case being between 60 and 150 metres. Film:

Film 39: First deer with 147gr ELD-m (470 metres kill)

I went for a quick hunting trip to find a deer since the weather forecast was incredible for early winter - and found one! Featuring ice, deer, and a rather useless cameraman (me). This was my first kill with the 147gr ELD-M out of my .260, and I am impressed so far...

    147gr ELD-M Long Range

I got out and tested my new 147gr ELD-M load in the .260 the other day; here's the results - works well so far! http://youtu.be/mZvjcMGA33w

    Film 37: 260 handloads - 147gr ELD-M

I started working up some handloads for the new Hornady 147gr 6.5mm ELD-M in my .260 Sako 85. I say "new" because we only just got them here in New Zealand last week. Here's the initial results (and some other stuff): https://youtu.be/xBg7rO9gWi0

Film 36: Marlborough Red Stag Roar

A friend and I just spent 5 days on a walk-in public land trip, hunting Red Stags in the roar, in the Marlborough region of New Zealand. Here's the film! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c96mP5L9E7M

Film 35: Hard Velvet 14 Pointer

I finally managed to get out for a hunt this week after an absolutely miserable summer. I saw a lot of animals and eventually chose to shoot a nice 14 point Red Stag, the best I've seen in the wild or shot to date. Here's the film - enjoy! https://youtu.be/vsULeO-f_yI

    Shooting without a bipod

I've been moving away from a bipod for my shooting/hunting, I think that using a backpack as a rest instead has some advantages. Here's a film about it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybt1mLrRLwo

    Long Range Tahr

It's a Sako Finnlight .260 with a 19.4 inch barrel, Schmidt and Bender 3-12x50 PMII, DPT suppressor (overbarrel "reflex" type unit that weighs 260grams and only extends 100mm past the muzzle). Shooting 140r amax at 2700fps flat using H4350. Tahr is a great eating meat, it's very lean...
