Re: Weatherby Mark V Ultra Lightweight 280 Rem
Yes, the package is still for sale. I was about to put it on gunbroker, but I'd rather let a fellow member of LRH get first dibs. It does have a 24" barrel and it grouped about .75" at 100 yds. with 140 grain accubonds.
This is a re-post as I could not get the photos to work in the previous thread. Mods, feel free to delete the original defunct thread or move this one if you need to.

I am looking to sell my Weatherby Ultra Lightweight in 280 Rem. It weighs 5.75 lbs. and has a 24" fluted barrel with target crown. Was purchased new in box and has exactly 46 rounds down the tube. Has a Leupold Vari-X III 3.5-10 X 40mm, and matching Kolpin waterproof bag and rifle sling...
For the 338 Lapua, it seems the shooter has two options: load to magazine length, or load them to properly seat long, secant ogive bullets like the Berger 300 (approaching 4" COL) but then you have to single feed them.
All The 338 magazines I could find are:
The AICS mags are up to 3.764"...
I have a 6-lug Weatherby Mark V chambered for 280 Rem that I plan to rebarrel to a more powerful cartridge. The 6-lug standard Mark V action has a smaller bolt than the 9-lug magnum Mark V. Will this prevent me from being able to safely open the boltface to accept a magnum cartridge, say a 300WSM?
According to Frank at Bartlein barrels, 8.25 twist is the magic number for the EOL 195.

Elkaholic, thanks for all the info, I think you've convinced me to get my barrel chambered in 280 Sherman. I just have 3 more questions...
If it'll push Berger 180s to 3100 fps, then i'm guessing it'll push the Berger EOL 195 to 2950-3000. I bet this super low drag bullet in the Sherman would be an amazing elk round. Do you foresee any problems with this cartridge/bullet combo?
The 280 Sherman looks interesting. There's an old article on this site comparing it to the 280 AI. Here's the link:

But this got me thinking, the 284 Win and 280 Rem have similar case capacities and similar...
Thanks for the replies. The more people I talk to, the more I'm leaning toward the 280 AI. (Unless I can find a 7mm wildcat that gives higher velocity without requiring a magnum bolt).
